This is insane. The noise that you're generating in the initial stage of smoke production is the absolute most crucial part. As soon as that's happening, and the noise is attached to the density, you can do whatever you want! It flows far better around objects than usual, has far more realistic details, even at far lower resolutions. Phenomenal work.
@resilientpicture Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, source noise is very important and the better the source variations the better the output. 🙂

The smoke density and render look really good. Hopefully the node based smoke sim sysmtem will fix the current issues as the mantaflow originical developers haven't updated the framework in a long time.

hello, amazing tutorial ! I need to create a realistic cigarette smoke, can you tell me what are the most important parameters to achieve this effect ? thanks again
@resilientpicture Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Most important aspect of any smoke is the source. Now for cigarette smoke I would say high noise scale and reasonable intensity. Try using more smoke volume source than surface source. say 1 vol source and 0.5 surface source. Then its trial and error with velocity, buoyancy, temp and density. Hope this makes sense.

Could I use this to simulate a gas flow in a pipe if I used a cylinder for the domain?
@resilientpicture Жыл бұрын
I can't see why not. 🙂 But I don't think you can change the domain shape. It's a box. You can use a cylinder as a collider and contain the smoke within it.

Can't find any documentation on what the velocity scale really does - why is it set to 1 per default if that is way too much? If you can enlighten me an answer would be greatly appreciated :)
@resilientpicture Жыл бұрын
Honestly,I'm not sure why it's 1 but if you leave it at default you'll see that it's just way too much. Most of my work is based on trial and error and my knowledge from Houdini. But you are right, it shouldn't be 1 by default if it's way too much during render.
@Leukick11 ай бұрын
Do these take just as long as VDBs to render, or is there a time difference?
@resilientpicture11 ай бұрын
IMO vdb renders faster only because blender's native sims have to load noise and it takes time. I don't have numbers for you though.
@Leukick11 ай бұрын

how is this workflow compared to axiom solver?
@resilientpicture Жыл бұрын
Axiom solver is a beast. Super fast. Blender is improving but I guess it'll be unfair to compare to axiom.
@carlosrivadulla8903 Жыл бұрын
@@resilientpicture I mean, speed is something ll be achieved sooner or later. I was most interested in a comparison in terms of control and flexibility. Ty for replying btw.
@resilientpicture Жыл бұрын
No worries, Blender sims aren't flexible,.there's only so much you can manipulate but Houdini in general is the king of dynamics and you can manipulate sims unlimited ways and times. Axiom has limited options when it comes to flexibility but future versions may include customer solver inputs. That's my understanding
@naytbreeze Жыл бұрын
In my smoke sim the smoke feels like it’s moving too fast. What setting controls the speed of the smoke coming from emitter again ?
@resilientpicture Жыл бұрын
@@naytbreeze There are a few things to control speed, the velocity within the domain settings as well as the source movement. If the source moves fast and initial vel is set to capture that then smoke will move fast. You can reduce the inherit velocity to lets say 0.1 and try. Hope this makes sense.

If you're doing any presenting or public speaking you need to be super cautious of verbal tics. It feels really really odd at first, and takes a load of practice, but instead of saying "erm" or "umm" (or "m'kay") just to fill the gaps try just saying nothing at all. This isn't a conversation. You don't *need* to indicate you're not finished talking. It's a presentation and small pauses will have people hanging off your words. It's perceived as you giving them a moment to think about what you just said and adds gravitas.
