For someone so talented, Tom appears so humble. It's almost as if he's embarrassed to make such beautiful things for us to enjoy.

Was lucky enough to meet this guy in my local bike shop as he lives in my town and saw his bike in person. Stunning piece of kit with details to die for. Pricey yes but made by one man with precision.

This is awsome! I want one. Does Tom work with the Athertons? They produce simular MTB frames with corbon fibor. Does Tom work with carbon fiober?
@kareemghattas8023 ай бұрын
why would you want titanium handlebars? are you getting flex or compliance or vibration damping?

I’d say mostly looks. But I’ll be building mine in the upcoming video and I’ll be using Ti stem with carbon bars

Topnotch. Is laserwelding doable or is it still with stickwelding "old style"? I dont have The know how 😂, carpenter by trade. Seen laserwelding and it is not any need to polish up after...

how do i paint a polished alloy bike frame to look TITANIUM COLOR? does anyone know which colors to mix pleaseeeeeeeeeee??? thanks in advance!
@bikepackingadventure79132 жыл бұрын
Did you get the weight of that build at the start? Managed to get my disc, hydraulic and mechanical geared titanium long distance road bike to 8.3kg and that cost me about £6500, and that was a self build from start to finish. Love titanium bikes, I have two so far. Not cheap

I wish to get one. So far not in my budget
@weedseed2 Жыл бұрын
Very nice! I ride a No22 drifter myself. Really like their classic frame shapes and details, but I'm not a huge fan of their new finishes and integrated stems tbh. That's also what puts me off with sturdy. For a Ti frame, it's maybe a bit too smooth for my taste. But don't get me wrong, the frames are a work of art, just not for me ✌

I wonder if Tom can print, and then build into his frames' structure more 'traditional' straight/mostly parallel to the ground, chain stays??
@fisharefriends5982 жыл бұрын
8k …damn thats steep.
@TwistedWheels2 жыл бұрын
Not cheap, but it includes ti cranks, stem/bar combo, seatpost, chainring and pulleys, so is in par with Specialized S-Works and other top models of big brands. But in this case you get a one-off titanium bike with custom geometry.

My 2002 Litespeed titanium ultimate has oval tubes. Much faster. Try holding a broom handle at one end in a 30mph wind. You can’t. Then try holding an oval tube at one end in a 30mph wind . Almost no resistance.
@fedthedual33822 жыл бұрын
You mean that your titanium bike is 20 years old? Did you notice any change in the bike handling since then? I really wonder if titanium is really more resistant than aluminum.... I'm looking for a forever bike to bikepack...
@nofascistsonmywatch Жыл бұрын
@@fedthedual3382 My Merlin Road does not feel, ride, react, or handle any differently now, 23 years after being built, than the first day I ever rode it. 😉 I have no idea about aluminum, since I've never owned a bike made out of that material (save for whatever small amount is in my frame's 3-2.5 titanium alloy tubes).
@nofascistsonmywatch Жыл бұрын
I believe that those titanium tubes on the Litespeed were hydroformed into that shape, correct? I am waiting to see if some of these 'printer' builders can come up with a fully NACA/aero tube shaped, printed titanium aero road bike as a solid 'sturdy' (if you don't mind the pun!) alternate to all of the lousily built, very low quality, carbon stuff out there.
@Strange_Brew Жыл бұрын
@@nofascistsonmywatch Yes the 2002 Litespeed Ultimate ridden by Robbie McEwen won 17 races including the green jersey at the Tour de France. I believe a Trek branded Blade ridden by Lance Armstrong won the time trial also. Definitely a very fast bike even today. There is now way I would pay 14,000$ for a carbon bike made in China or Taiwan. I hope the young engineers work on making a fast 3D printed titanium bike . It can be done. My chainstays were made for a 19mm tire but I used some heat and auto body tools to open it to accommodate 25-28mm tires. Much better!
@nofascistsonmywatch Жыл бұрын
@@Strange_Brew Yeah, my Merlin can handle 25Cs, but that is the final, absolute limit for those chainstays, and sadly (and infuriatingly, at the effing manufacturers!), it makes finding narrower rim brake wheels (especially anything even remotely aero and deeper carbon, let alone with a Campy 10 speed freehub!) next to impossible to find nowadays. 🙁👎👎
@charlesmansplaining2 жыл бұрын
Certainly a beautiful bike no one can argue that but what it costs is not for the common peasants. Makes no sense to advertise the brand except in those publications like Sharper Image and such that the rich like to read.
@TwistedWheels2 жыл бұрын
The pricing is not cheap, but on par with the top offering from Specialized, Colnago and other big brands. But in this case you are getting a one-off unique bike with the custom geometry, so I’d definitely prefer this.
@nofascistsonmywatch Жыл бұрын
@@TwistedWheels Also, unless you REALLY mangle it in a bad crash, or it gets run over by a truck (lorry to you), it WILL outlast most of the garbage crunchy carbon out there, so one must add up the co$t of multiple 'plastic fantastic' frames in order to realize it's value. 😉👍
