Twister was just one of "those" movies. Perfect cast at the perfect moment in time. If you believed for a second that Twisters had a chance of recapturing that, you were always going to be disappointed. Shout out to maybe the worst thing I've ever heard Tim say...."I liked this movie but I would almost rather that it sucked"
@skarbone1
@skarbone1 Ай бұрын
Hey Tim, just FYI. The reason cars get picked up is because the wind passes under them and generates lift. When you’re laying on the ground, you’re minimising the surface area that wind can exert force. So if that dude had army crawled across the pool, he would’ve survived. That’s why they say if you’re in a car that you know is going to get hit by a tornado, you’re actually safer exiting the vehicle and laying prone in a ditch.

At an hour in, ya'll say you dont understand why the bad guy would want to develop in tornado alley. As someone who lives in tornado alley I can assure you, houses are still expensive here. Also, are you under the impression the developer gives a shit what happens after they sell the house?

I mean. If you fell in love with and grew up on Twister, I’m not surprised this one didn’t “hit all the same notes” after seeing it 3 times, it’s a standalone sequel and imo was pretty great
@BasketCase-rr7tx
@BasketCase-rr7tx Ай бұрын
That’s not really the issue. The issue is that the first movie has aged so well and if anything it seems better now than it did when it released. This movie just couldn’t live up to it.
@troymuller496
@troymuller496 Ай бұрын
@@BasketCase-rr7txthen you went into this moving wrong if you are comparing it to the original. If it was a direct sequel sure, but as a standalone, it should be looked at as separate. And their other criticisms about it just make me think they wanted it to be a direct follow up
@BasketCase-rr7tx
@BasketCase-rr7tx Ай бұрын
@@troymuller496 I mean... it actually is a direct sequel, its clearly set in the same universe because Dorothy V is in it, which would be the next Dorothy after the four we see in the original movie. Also, its kinda impossible not to compare them seeing as these two movies are basically the only two big budget movies about Tornados that have ever been made. It would be weird not to compare them.
@troymuller496
@troymuller496 Ай бұрын

I cannot disagree with this review more, aside from the note about the original movie's score being a lot better. I am really surprised, because I genuinely thought it was such an obvious improvement. I thought the orignal fell flat on all fronts except the score. I thought this new movie succeeded everywhere the original failed, again except for the score. The subjectivity of film, right? Weird how vastly different film can strike us.

You thought the characters were better in this one?
@Erwin_Efforts
@Erwin_Efforts Ай бұрын
@@AndrewB2189 Yeah, I really did. But you've also got to understand that I thought they were still only okay. Watching the original, I could not have cared less about what was going on between the characters. And I thought the performances in that original were surprisingly bad, given how talented I know those actors really are. Like, the only characters I enjoyed at all in the original were Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jeremy Davies.
@AndrewB2189
@AndrewB2189 Ай бұрын
@@Erwin_Efforts Maybe it’s the nostalgia but I thought Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt had way more chemistry than this movie’s leads. I agree that Philip Seymour Hoffman was the most memorable side character. Twisters characters didn’t feel real to me. I was just thinking “oh that’s that actor I’ve seen in something else”
@Erwin_Efforts

@@AndrewB2189 Yeah, I think that's just kinda where both films struck me and some like me differently from a lot of others. Just the way that goes, though, right? One of the interesting things about the art form.

Im a bit of a tornado geek so I cant help but have enjoyed this movie. I noticed a lot of nods to the weather fandom (I guess?) in the movie. Pretty sure Glen Powell’s character is based off real life extreme storm chaser/youtuber Reed Timmer. Its also pretty common for storm chasers to stop chasing and start helping folks out if a storm hits a town. The city of El Reno, as shown at the end of the movie was very well nearly hit by the widest tornado on record. Pretty well known in the weather community as it took the lives of 3 pro storm chasers. I think also the movie screen being ripped out of the theater at the end was a nod to the 2021 Mayfield, KY tornado hitting and perfectly taking out a wall in a local theater. That being said….Twister is definitely superior. Its a shame Helen Hunt couldnt have a Twisters cameo.

I thought the 1st one had a more fun cast (especially Philip Seymour Hoffman), but this one felt like it had higher stakes. Seeing characters die at the beginning really set up the rest of the movie to leave you feeling unsure who would survive each twister encounter. I really enjoyed the 2nd one more and I think people's nostalgia for the 1st one are somewhat tainting their feelings towards this one.

The sequel I think I actually prefer from some perspectives but it will never be a "classic" like the original similar feeling between Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick.
