As someone who has been taken advantage of when I was a teen, I'm extremely disturbed by some of the arguments of the twitterpedo's. When you are 14, you are extremely vulnerable and in no place to give consent. You may be emotionally mature and can make your own decisions, but that doesn't mean those decisions were made logically. The prefrontal cortex (for logical decision making) is underdeveloped when you're a teen and, therefore, teens are impulsive and let their emotions take control. Yes, I may have said yes to old men, but I was definitely not in a place where I could give consent.

My father is a MAP and he fucking scarred me for life, he would always look at me whenever I was around and always got super close to me. It got really uncomfortable and it got to the point where I would isolate myself in a tiny room so he wouldn’t see me. Also whenever I was in the bathroom and I didn’t lock the door, even when I said I was in the bathroom, he came in and was like “whoopsy Daisy my bad” and it was so tormenting. He started showing obvious and creepy behavior when I was 7. And it got a lot worse when I was 10 and I “started” puberty. Now I’m transgender and he STILL looks at me infront of others. I hate him and I have trust issues thanks to him. MAPS ARE NOT OK

@@artangelsproductions253 i think that some of them just want younger people to have a level of choice that suits their mental maturity. i also don't think many people argue for children to be able to consent. but for teens the distinction for whether or not they have enough awareness to make good decisions is more unclear because of the varying mental maturity between teens even of the same age. although some of the things they said were pretty creepy so i'm not going to defend that. but i don't think this issue is entirely black or white.

@@walrus8444 age of consent in USA ranges from 16-18. if you're suggesting it should be even lower than 16, that's dangerous because adults hold power over minors physically, mentally, & most importantly, socially. this allows them to manipulate minors. that's why age of consent is not lower. teens don't have the same level of social power over other teens that adults do, it’s not the same. also, teens are undergoing puberty which makes them tend to be more reckless & irrational. not every teenager is the same, but that isn't something to ignore, either. better safe than sorry.
