Cost of installation of ventilation and masks etc: How about following the old tradition of opening the windows and enabling patients to be outside if appropriate? In January 2023, my 91 year old mother-in-law was hospitalised (ER/ICU) here in China with C19 where EVERYONE was wearing N95 AND most windows were open despite it being the middle of winter. Patients kept warm with quilts/duvets.

I recently purchased a Co2 monitor and what an eye opener it has been. I discovered that our upstairs bedroom has very poor ventilation even though it is a large room and the downstairs is fine. Turns out that those elevated Co2 levels were contributing to my restless sleep and morning headaches. Leaving the balcony door open a few inches as well as our bedroom door (we used to close it at night) helped a lot.

Yeah, N95s and great ventilation has stopped me and my friends from being infected thus far. Important as we learn the ever-increasing issues that Covid 19 presents after infection. 😢

Cooking should kill H5N1 in cow meat but not everyone has the same culinary practices. Some people like raw meat. I hope @CDC and @FDA consider an advisory against steak tartare and uncooked meat, and undercooked meats. The thicker steaks take longer to cook. Temperature exposure times for thermal deactivation of H5N1 in cow and other meats for consumption are still not clearly spelled out.

I have had 3 Pfizer shots, primary series in 2021 and 1 booster. However as time has gone on and we learn more and more the potential dangers and now as we see, low effectiveness I have changed my view 180 degrees. These shots should never be given to children, and this study reinforces this view.

Here is an old paper with the interesting observation that a sars coronavirus flourished in a low humidity AC type environment. Low humidity is also common in heated homes during winter. The Effects of Temperature and Relative Humidity on the Viability of the SARS Coronavirus, 2011 But in general different viruses survive better at different humidities and temps.

Uni Bristol Physics Dept, 26 April 2024 "A new study has revealed for the first time the vital role carbon dioxide (CO2) plays in determining the lifespan of airborne viruses-namely SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. It clearly showed keeping CO2 levels in check helps to reduce virus survival, and therefore the risk of infection."

Does that mean if HVAC systems add a “CO2” chamber/filter/wash, that could help remove active virus from indoor air? I’m interested-what are the ways this info can be applied?

To me "droplet" = liquid, while particle is solid but could include liquid. Certainly I'm used to pollution stated in particles and particle sizes. So particle sounds more general a term to use.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but does cheese made from raw milk carry the same risk as unpasteurised milk?
@gribbler1695
@gribbler1695 4 ай бұрын
There are many cheeses made from raw milk, such as camembert and roquefort. It's an FDA requirement that they be aged for at least 60 days, which prevents listeria, salmonella, E. coli and other harmful types of bacteria from growing.

You *sorta* touched on this, but isn't it true that ANY human infection from a virus of domestic animal origin GREATLY increases its ability to make the jump to a much greater degree of virulence. Viruses are programmed to mutate rapidly and only require an environment that favors adaptations that enable spread? [ps. the recent JAMA has a bit on H5N1 human infection from cattle.]
