This was such an interesting episode! I never told you this, but before I became interested in viruses, I actually thought I wanted to go into aging research (I still follow the field closely because it's so exciting). Actually, David Sinclair's lab at Harvard Med just released a paper this month outlining a new 'Information Theory of Aging'. The proposal is that epigenetic changes in the genome may be a main cause of aging, rather than mutation. They set up a mouse model in which they could induce systemic non-mutagenic epigenetic changes, and these mice age considerably faster than littermates that didn't have these changes induced. It seems to me that endogenous retroviruses could be contributing to aging in this manner.

Here in Quebec, -2C is really not bad. Once you have been through really awful cold weather it seems balmy. Every year we go through the adjustment to cold so much that a 5C makes us think of shorts and bathing suits. It really seems warm!

I've been away from twiv for a few weeks, but I just have to comment that Dixon seems to be feeling back to his old self. Thanks to the twiv crew and supporters. 👋✅

From or with Covid-19-- complicated situation: Have seen patients who fell and had a fracture followed by surgery but post onset symptom of weakness with GI/urinary symptoms or upper respiratory symptoms and weakness found in hospital to be RAT or PCR positive. The illness that setoff the sequence was Covid-19.

Autopsy are required in some circumstances, depending on the state. It can depend on location of death, not necessarily on any other factor.

I still wasn't infected with Covid-19. I would like to be protected from this disease when I have to go to hospital for another reason. I hope that there is a kind of protected area in the hospitals for people like me!

The last protocol in place for my local hospital in the US is test every patient on admission. Unsure if inpatients are tested during their admission. Separate all positives, asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic *with* COVID from the negative population & use respiratory droplet precautions. The few negative pressure rooms are only in the specialty units in our local hospitals.

You might want to see about using a properly fitted N95 or higher type PPE respirator just in case you need hospitalized.

If SARS COV2 better replicate at very low tissue temperature, may be hypothermia must be avoided at Covid19 patients,to avoid persistent infection? May be even oxigenotherapy must use more warmed oxigen mix in case of SARS COV2 infection?

Also, watched a covid patient die with terrible spleen pain early on, not respiratory distress. It gets other organs too. Everyone has been distracted by the respiratory failure.

While I appreciate the valuable information you provide, I STRONGLY suggest you shorten your podcasts. I have forwarded to friends, who say “Thanks, but I don’t have anywhere NEAR that much time!” For example, on this program, it was SIX MINUTES before you got to the subject. You talked about snow, snow removal, temperature, windows, research assistant, Amy’s text message, etc…all nice chitchat but totally unnecessary for your AUDIENCE. Save the chitchat until the end so the audience is spared the wasted time. (Sorry, but everyone I know is BUSY and RUSHED.) I also suggest you break up programs into shorter segments when possible, recording 2 or more related programs. I’m interested in the information you provide, but most days, don’t have 1+ uninterrupted hours…and I’m RETIRED!!
