I’m a 9w1. What finally helped me overcome the Sloth Dragon (for now) is to remind myself that meaningful things take effort. “Engage in Effort” is my new motto and it’s been very helpful. Also realizing that I can’t do it all if I want to do what matters to me, so I have to let some things go. And doing what matters to me first thing in the morning, otherwise I’ll make a million excuses not to do it. Also, I’m a 9 with a calendar but I spend hours perfecting it and it’s actually a form of procrastination for me.😂

12:03 @twlahue The video ends here, but it does not seem like it is complete. From a 9, leaning into her 8 wing.

I literally have an AT&T bill that needs disputed and have been avoiding it. Spent an hour “designing” my calendar earlier today..I always procrastinate calling people.. and I’m sitting here playing the game while watching this 😭🤦🏾♂️. No doubt this video is for me.

As 9 i can confirm 8:02 this part haha i wanted to drink my favorite milkshake like from 2 weeks ago but because i was too lazy and kept thinking bout the traffic the time etc ..however , i got opportunity to drink it while i was hanging out with a friend 😆 I waited for the situation to happen to act with it instead of actually forcing myself and go get it from the beginning

Yeah.... I learned a long time ago that no matter how much I love organization and calendars and lists, what I really loved was the idea of them. It was a lot easier to utilize them when I was in school for school related things. But they end up just sitting around now.

9w1: wow-hands down the best 9 video yet. Very convicting, direct, and accurate. Thank you, Dr. Tom-and yes, I have been narcotizing by watching your videos while I eat fun junk food and sit in my cozy chair. I’ll go call my mom now (after I pay my AT&T bill…). I also want to add, developing relationships with 3’s and 8’s has been a healthy step for me in finding my own motivation.

Started learning about the enneagram to be able to understand how characters different from me would believe or react… and have caught myself using it as a way to procrastinate the actual writing part.

I think you missed the point of nines. The things you say, about duty, and doing what you have to are what nines are constantly overwhelmed by... that is the very reason they are immoble: Too much pressure. I feel that by telling them to stop procrastinating and "DO" you are not making them a service. What you need to tell a nine is that it precisely by by aknowledging that "they DON'T have to do all the things they think they have to".. that they may actually summon the energy to do the ones that want to do or know to be necessary. What you are saying sounds more like what you would say to an inactive 7 that is lost in pleasure rather than a 9 that is overwhelmed in pressure...

Yeah, I'm been stuck in this unhealthy loop for years. My parents pressuring me to do things i don't want to, makes me do those things in a half-assed manner because I don't care. While I feel like every time I try to do what I want to do and fail, I get less and less motivated. To motivate a 9 I'd ask what they want to do in life and give them a push in that direction, then let them make progress while being there for them. it's very important to listen carefully when a 9 asks for anything even something that may seem minor at first glance can be them asking for help because when 9s get unhealthy we don't want to bother people with "Our issues".

@@akaiendo7312 I feel you. I had been stuck like that for years. What really helped was considering that maybe all the things I assume I have to do… I don’t. I made it my motto “laziness is wisdom disguised as guilt” and made it a point to always see if there was perhaps a really valid reason not to do something that others thought I should: most of the time there was a deep intuition that signaled me the uselessness and danger of following them. Sitting on the feelings of laziness and it’s intuition also often helped spur the contrary wisdom that would tell me where to go. Another thing that helped was recognising “I can’t, it’s too much”; brig prone to alwais resist i became dissociated with my feeling of exhaustion and my capacity to recognize when I had reached my limits. Looking at my struggles and being able to accept… I can’t it’s too much, provided the space to rest, let go and recover. Often that gave me the energy to then go ahead and actually do some of those things. Breathe, forgive yourself, accept yourself and trust that the part of you that doesn’t want to do what you have to may actually be the wisest. “Be that part” and try to see the world through its eyes, and maybe you will see why you inaction some times makes perfect sense and what other course to take. Ask yourself if there is a path that joins what the world wants you to do and what you really want… likely that one will work out much better. All the best

I totally agree! as a 9w8 (but pretty balanced 1 too) I find that saying I DONT HAVE TO DO IT, relieves the pressure and allows the space and freedom to do what LITTLE I want to do as opposed what I think I have to do, but that little event allows the motivation to follow once the ball is rolling. It's not WAITING for motivation to arrive, but instead doing it (or visualizing doing it) that enables the energy to activate and thus, the doing creates the motivation rather than the other way around.

Long term peace. As a nine I have low motivation. Something I need to change but have no desire to do things for me. Took a long time to learn to be social, but I did it.

This is helpful, some days are so good. For forty years I have done housekeeping and have also done home care for twenty. Right now no has been working, my agenda has been coming together organizing in my home and have stopped home care said no. Looking forward to more videos feel like times I have a wing 1 and others a wing 8. At times other numbers sound relevant to me as well.
