Good escape plan...we b off grid in mountains near Glacier Natl Park. A few days ago, a neighbor and his wife lost all they owned to a house fire.....she walked 3/8 of a mile in two and a half feet of snow in slippers and a house coat, while he used a snow blower to fight the fire..Rural fire dept saved the sono tubes......Tough way to start the year for a D A V......but they even lost their dog....Fortunately, there are still good people around. B prepared.

Anything you do is interesting to us Andrew. That ice scares me a lot . Six inches is ok , less is not! I've been through the ice once . Being cold ain't the problem being scared shitless is the problem. Only the lucky ones get out of the water fast enough to live.. Rivers are dangerous as you know and who's gonna help you? I forgot to mention they sell little ice picks you wear around your neck for on rivers and lakes if you fall through you use them to belly out and grab the ice.. rivers are the worst because you're swept away but you'd at least have a chance.. Eskimos make needle bars with a wooden handle and a heavy metal tip then your needle bar helps you float a little bit and keep you above the hole.. they sell the little emergency lanyard ice picks, but you could easily make them out of wooden dowels and screws.. you could maybe put a tough sinew leather strap around the end over the screw to keep it from catching on you and scratching you.. it may seem silly but you could also consider wearing your life vest when the ice is so sketchy to help you get out if u go in.. I was surprised to learn also that bears will take over beaverdens and hibernate in there, but even when there's only beavers in there the air holes can allow you to fall through if walking around a beaver den

Andrew i was just thinking you need an inside warm spot to park your quad and or snow machine. Have you given any thought to adding on a small room for that? I just know that way you wouldn't have all the problems associated with cold weather start ups and at least to start out you wouldn't have snow on the seat or a cold rear end. lol Sure would be a good summer project if you had the time and means and of course if you wanted to. Anyways just a thought. Good luck on the line and be careful on the ice! I always look forward to your content!
