I used to feel sorry for Alan until I realized half of his misfortunes was caused by his unbelievable bad luck and the other half was caused by his cheapness and laziness. He had to pay alimony to judith and Kandi and also child support to judith. Then again, he stopped paying alimony to judith by season 4, he also only had to pay alimony to kandi for less than a year, he stopped paying child support when jake turned 18 and he had business and a few girlfriends that actually put up with him in the beginning. At some point, it stopped being about Alan having bad luck. He simply stopped trying.
