I love how these Bumble Lords somehow chucklefucked their way into the best ending. That first game was so good with its use and subversion of horror tropes, the great story, characters and performances, the branching decisions actually having consequences, and the game mechanics actually being immersive and getting the player properly involved in the narrative. The one thing that does bug me is how much shit Emily gets. Like, yeah, she's the archetypical 'Bitchy Mean Girl' character, and the story sets it up so you're not supposed to like her based on her general demeanor and questionable actions. But, the game doesn't lie when it tells you things like how she's smart, capable and assertive. Like, girl gets shit done: IIRC it was her idea to go to the comm. tower and contact a rescue crew, she managed to save herself from the tower collapsing, she uncovered the truth behind the wendigos and escaped from the mines almost entirely single-handed and on her own ingenuity, and if you get the button prompts right at the end of her escape she has one of the most badass moments in the entire game. Yet, because she holds a grudge against her ex-boyfriend for sticking a gun in her face and bitchslaps the girl whose hysterical jumping to conclusions almost got her killed, she's more loathed than the unstable mental patient who spent the past year dreaming up a Saw-esque torture scenario to traumatise his friends as revenge for his sisters' deaths. Like, not to brush aside character flaws, but all I'm saying is they turn the corner pretty quickly for other stereotypical characters, but Emily gets no respect for holding her own without help for any of the rest of them. Seems like kind of a double standard to me.

Emily is my favorite character! I think the most fun thing about Until Dawn is how it introduces the characters as stereotypes (and, like, frankly assholes except for Sam, Josh and Matt) then lets them grow beyond that over time, provided you keep them alive and make certain decisions. I always root for first-time players to come around on Emily and see the resilience that emerges when she's finally on her own. I also love Dr. Hill's comment if you pick her as your most disliked, because it totally makes sense and makes her behavior more understandable. The more scared and stressed out she is, the snider she gets toward her friends because it's the only way she can feel in control. It's not a GOOD coping mechanism, but I think everyone has had a moment when they were freaked out and it made them meaner than they should have been.

Redeeming qualities are key. Yeah you stuck a gun in my face in a moment of passion but you're generally fun to be around and humourous. Sin forgiven. But if you're mostly lukewarm to miserable to be around, being a moral angel still gets you rejection. Girl does cool shit, good for her, can she/does she forge warm connections with people? Nah? See you later. Simple as that. Asshole guys get more love because guys are non-stop dicks to each other during the best of times but it's usually shallow teasing so it's seen with a more forgiving eye. Some girls have that in their character, my most fondly remembered exes for example, but most girls are assholes out of real malevolence. Is it a double standard? yup. Is it unfair? No. Men and women are different generally. Men can and will be best friends even though they only communicate in insults. In fact, if guys arent teasing and insulting each other that means they're not on good terms. Women can but generally don't have relationships like that.

+fintanio I think this applies to any LPer compilation/montage, that a fan editing the work may (*may*) result in something less LPer biased. If an LPer is editing their own stuff (I don't know if they edited the Until Dawn montage) then they are carrying a massive amount of bias with them. It's totally unavoidable and applies to literally every single Let's Player. It's a bias that can't be dropped. It's why those Markiplier montages that Mark himself makes would most likely be funnier and better if someone else did the editing, because Mark is automatically biased against his own content and that bias is a fault that will always enter the editing room. Lower case s. Lower case c. Remove the space. Do that, and you get a treat. It's coming.

Dante Diep advertisement hits the nail on the head. I never intend for any of the edits to be substitutes for the actual LPs. I get comments often that read like “This is cool but you forgot X I liked that part” and the answer is always “it’s still in the LP”. It’s not usually a mistake that something is left out. I try to make it so that fans will want to revisit the Lp, and newer folks will want to check out their channel and discover more.
