When my friend from England visited me in Georgia last summer, he was absolutely terrified to step off my patio because of what he’d heard about copperheads being so numerous here. Meanwhile, I’m walking the dog around the yard at night with only sandals on and a flashlight. I gave him the same advice to look at his feet while walking. I didn’t have the heart to tell him they are frequently on cement patios, enclosed garages and door jambs too. The poor man would have never left the house.

When my wife and I moved into our house there was somehow a tiny little rat snake that was just inside the front door (generally love them in my area to help with rodents, but I digress). She panicked and tried to stomp on it--and it escaped into an air vent. She wanted to burn the place down, heh. Now we have a whole army of rat snakes in our neighborhood thanks to immediately saving that tiny snake's ass in the duct work we have in our crawlspace. I will admit that I'm not as much of a fan of the massive rat snakes, but they're mostly harmless so I let other braver folks deal with them. (Yes I know that there was already going to be an army of rat snakes with or without trying to save the dude in the ductwork. I just didn't want to deal with the smell.)

Obscure is right! American here and I'd never even heard of noodling until it was on a t.v. show a few years ago on Animal Planet. I wrote a paper on it for school and learned of another family well-known for hosting noodling tours. The dad had lost several fingers due to the snapping turtles taking them off! So, you can't downplay encountering a turtle instead of a catfish in one of those holes, lol. That family also fished with bare hands, no gloves, so they're a whole 'nother level of crazy! Ollie just made a memory he'll surely be sharing with his grand kids someday, "Did I ever tell you about the time I caught a 50 lb. catfish in America with my bare hands? Me and Uncle Josh were in a lake and I had to find food for us..." 😆

I only learned about noodling about 6 months ago and my dad's family has been fishing for catfish since they were young. Even to me, this is absolutely insane. I've seen many famous first-timers do it. It's clearly such a rush. I'm not a daredevil. However, I greatly respect all of the generations of family growing up doing this. It definitely requires such a hard work ethic. As well as the strong family both this instills for the love of it and living off the land. It's quite admirable to see in this day and age. This is what I’m used to, sitting in a boat fishing or being around these people. I’m from the south and this made me so happy to you do this kind of video. These people are the kindest and I appreciate the attention and love.

Seeing you boys sitting around, drinking beer, eatin' catfish with Tony Chachere's spice and tabasco sauce is great. That's something you'd see any folk down here in SE Texas or anywhere in Louisiana doing on any given weekend. Hope you guys enjoyed it.

All of us from the south are feeling so proud right now. There is nothing like our southern culture! Proud I was raised in it. I’m super picky with whose catfish I’ll eat because it can be really freaking good or really freaking bad. Glad you loved it and had a great time. It looks amazingly fun for sure.

I've lived in Mississippi my whole life(70 years) and have never been noodling. But I do enjoy eating catfish.
@Ekkis255 ай бұрын
As a boy in South Carolina, catfish was a staple you could catch them by hand in the muddy banks of Lake Murray easily (not as big as Ollie's though!) and my grandmother had 5 grandsons, and she took us catfishing weekly. It was a part of our diet; they were that easy to catch.

My Dad is from Florida and we went there a few years back. Honestly, this is so normal to me. Watching you guys try this is so funny to me because here it's so normal. I live in the midwest now and go fishing and hunting all the time. Although, being in the south is a much different experience, but SO worth it! They really experienced true American culture.

As an angler in CA I catch catfish all the time using a rod and reel. The crazy thing is that most others here don’t eat them and get upset when one hits their line. But fresh catfish is delicious!

The campground picnic table, grill and Walmart paper plates is soooo ubiquitously southern! 😂 It's basically every summer lake trip I've ever had since moving to Arkansas from Cali. After a long day of drinking on the lake and getting a little sun burnt, sitting down to eat at one of those tables with my family, is my happy place. 😊

There used to be a catfish restaurant here in Texas that floated on Inks Lake and once you decided which how you wanted it, they would catch it from the big opening in the middle of the restaurant. It was fantastic. They should have tried the catfish with ranch dressing.
