8:15 Never been to the US, but I gotta say that the Americans generally really seem friendly. In most of the youtube videos I see in the US, people seem like they have no problem starting conversations with strangers and even as an introvert myself, I appreciate that

As an American, I'll have to say it's probably 90% of us that are nice and 10% that are mean and the 10% mean are louder and thus makes the rest of us look bad. Hopefully videos like these change that

Someone from NJ here for facts about Wawa! -The name Wawa comes from a native American word for snow geese (Canadian geese) because of the sound they make. -The stuffed pretzels are hit and miss depending on when you go, but when they're fresh absolutely nothing beats them. -Everyone who gets breakfast gets Sizzlis, which are in the area you got the pretzels during breakfast hours. They come in many different variations of sausage/ bacon egg and cheese on croissants, bagels, waffles, etc -Wawa isn't always a gas station, there are lots of stand alone places that people go to just for an easy meal. -The mac and cheese is literally always squishy, but sometimes you want to hate yourself and it's the only thing that will do. -Hoagies and subs are the same thing, but the term "hoagie" is really only used in the greater Philly area. Neither would ever be called a sandwich, like Josh said in the cheese steak video, sandwiches are with the little stacked pieces of bread.

A Hoagie is the South Jersey/Philadelphia name for the sandwich regularly known as a Sub (or Submarine Sandwich). Central and North Jersey has Subs. The main difference is the hoagie bun is not cut all the way through and everything is wedged in. The Sub bread is cut all the way through and has a better distribution of the food in between the bread.

Wawa Iced Tea - personally my fav is the diet green tea (idk the diet tastes better to me), but i also love the tangerine white tea or any fruit black tea 3. Breakfast Sizzlis - my personal favorite is the sausage biscuit oh and also their hashbrowns 4. Buffalo chicken quesadilla - all cheddar is my fav but i know a lot of people like it w pepper jack Lastly, i love that you got an italian, but personally I get an italian with oil and vinegar, lettuce, onions, pickles, salt, pepper, oregano, and parmesan. Philly native here. Wawa's food used to be a lot better. It does vary store by store....but overall the quality was higher 10+ years ago, but to attract more customers they expanded their menu away from just hoagies, prepared food to go (like the stuffed pretzels, etc.), and breakfast sandwiches to include pizza, burgers, etc. and it impacted the quality of it all. Many people, myself included, are dying for them to slim their menu down like 20 to 33% or more and focus on what they can do well. And yeah, a hoagie from Wawa is nowhere near as good as a hoagie from one of the dozens of great pizza/hoagie spots in Philly (and its suburbs).

Wawa recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. Started as a dairy seller in wawa, PA. Grew into the regional convenience store chain many of us know over the years and didn't add gas til the 90s. It's an institution in many towns in the region. One of the things I've found in my 28 years is that Wawa stores that cater to people locally tend to have a lot better quality control and such than the ones that you'll find along the highway or even major roads

Like any other store that has spread to many many locations. The quality really comes down to the individual employees at the store and their management. I work in hundreds of different restaurants, including places like Burger King, Wendy's, Dairy Queens, KFCs, you name it. And they ALL vary wildly. It's 100% who works there and how much they care about the job they're doing.
@WARnTEA
@WARnTEA 6 ай бұрын
@@KhronicDWawa built their brand on having good employees. They have a an employee ownership program where employees can get stock int he company as well as benefits. A huge contrast to most convenience stores that just pay their employees minimum wage part time. Of course with so many items on the menu quality control is not easy and can slip depending on the location.

But that I’ve only ever seen at Wawa. Usually around thanksgiving. It’s complicated to explain to outsiders but if you’re from Philly you know. Also I think you’re currently in Jersey. And I’m fairly certain they call things differently there. But Wawa is from the greater Philadelphia area so it’s hoagies all day, subs for meatballs, and grinders for random things that don’t fit proper classification.

Wawa was best when they sourced everything externally instead of making everything in house. They started out just as a deli originally so they used to get all of their cold cuts from Boar's Head, had their bread delivered daily from an Italian bakery in Philly (one very much like the bread that Angelo's has for their cheesesteaks) and locally sourced most things that could be. That period when they were basically a local deli in a gas station was definitely the only time it could challenge Buc-ee's. Unfortunately with their huge expansion, they're just a shadow of themselves when it comes to quality convenience.

Thank you guys so much for doing a video on Wawa. It so hard trying to explain to people in the midwest how good Wawa food is. When I was a kid the food prep area was actually a deli and you could get your meats and cheeses freshly sliced there. That was one reason their hoagies were so good, they sliced the meat fresh for each sandwich. I don't know how much it has changed since the last time I was there in the early aughts. Wawa was always more like a 7/11. They were originally a small convenience store that also had a deli. They didn't start adding gas stations until about 30 years ago. There were Wawa's long before there was a Subway. I grew up moving between Pennsylvania and Kansas. People all along the upper east coast have been saying hoagie my entire life... almost half a century. It isn't just a Philly local area word. IMO the best hoagies are from Wawa. People in the midwest didn't have a general word for hoagie type sandwiches until Subway came along (I know this because I remember it happening in my lifetime), thus the 'sub' sandwich name. 'Sub' sandwiches are not hoagies. They are the sub-par version of hoagies. The bread especially is different, and better in hoagies. The type of bread used matters! Hoagie rolls are stronger and yet still soft. There is a distinct difference that can't be recreated by toasting the sandwich. That just makes the bread flaky. The strength in the bread has to be baked into it. Stronger bread makes for a better sandwich. Similarly, pinwheel rolls are not the same as Keiser rolls. Keiser rolls are better, again stronger without sacrificing their softness. Also, pretzels that aren't cooked with lye and are dipped in spicy nacho cheese sauce are not as good as the pretzels you get from the street vendors in NY and Philly. They don't compare at all. The cheese is more like velveeta and it is amazing. I can't get a good pretzel with cheese in the midwest because they just don't understand how good the traditional pretzel really is.

Jersey girl here, and the thing about Wawa is that it's dependable and convenient. If you need something to eat, Wawa is there for you, offering reasonable quality food and a ton of options. They do NOT make the best hoagie/sub in the mid-Atlantic by a LONG shot, but if I'm smashed at 3am or pulling an overnight, I know I can get something fresh and decent enough at Wawa when everything else is closed. There's also always one within a short distance, so they can be a good option for a fast lunch on a work day and a good way to get a quick and decent cup of coffee on your way to work. I do not love their breakfast sandwiches, but sometimes they do the job. They also offer a lot of healthy, ready-to-go options. Sadly, the mac and cheese is always mushy AF.
