Both dresses are great, like the length of the black print. It is great to belong to those who also sew. I have a group of 5 ladies, we live within half-mile radius. We have been quilting/sewing every Monday night from 6:30 for about 15 years. Sometimes we work on same sewing projects, sometimes quilts and we just do our own project. Sometimes we make quilts for others, i.e. friends daughter had cancer, we made her a beautiful hearts quilt. We go to craft and quilt show when they come around. Its a great way to enjoy sewing, and it will make you a better sewer. Our motto is, "finished is better than perfect"! the 3rd group pattern.

I just adore your personality coming on here with wet hair and making us deal. Haha! Love it! Enjoyed hearing about your dresses and look at all that space you have to show them off!! X

It was 98 degrees that day! I am unwilling to suffer quite that much for the pursuit of beauty, lol! I am really glad to have that big room all to myself, it is a lot easier to film a full length view of the garment there, but I make take the show outside next time, not sure. I think the space is an American thing, our houses are built big and cheap, but without a lot of character and warmth.
@Penguinandpear5 жыл бұрын
@@SewingatMidnight yeah I remembered when we visited in 91. Stayed in Canada and travelled down to New York. To be fair you have a lot more land to play with. I do think your houses have character though just a different kind. My apartment doesn't have much in the way of character as it's a fairly new build purpose built too xx

OMG...that second dress is the best. Love those colors and it shows off your legs.
@narelleworks84485 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on 3.1k subs. It's climbing well. Of the two dresses I prefer the first one because of the fabric colour, more open neck, skirt length is right for me. However, I loved the skirt length of second one on you. It swayed just the right amount and showed off your lovely legs. I like the sound of the group you've joined. I hope it continues to prove of great value to you. My current sewing project is to create a bedhead of sorts. Basically attempting to stop the pillows sliding into the dusty gap behind the bed without using a slab of wood. If I've done it right it will be hidden by the pillows (mostly the ones finally retrieved from the floor). Then my focus is on making some lightweight winter dresses for the two weeks of cold weather. I'm also looking to have made a Book week dress for my grand daughter by August. I love the creativity the last project gives me. I can call most of my sewing mistakes creative genius! I'm in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Hard to guess without the accent. Apparently I talk a lot too. Great giveaways btw! My choice is #1 💜🦉🇦🇺
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
Narelle, I also prefer the first one because the fabric feels amazing and keeps me cool, and I prefer a lower neckline as well. The other one is great too, but you are right, the first one suits me better. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you with this bed situation. I hope it goes well! I hope you enjoy the winter, and you live in a beautiful place. I visited once and went to nature place and got to squeeze a wombat and I have never forgotten how squishy they are.

Woot woot celebration time, c'mon! lol Anyway I am still working on 9 Deacon stoles that I had to put aside to quickly sew 11 reuseable grocery bags for my baby girl and cut out some tops for me to hide Millie the Muffin Top! I managed to get one sewn, and it fit! Yeehaw! I laid out a dolman sleeved top I had that fit, cut a front, fipped it the opposite way to get a back while adding extra depth in the arm pit area for the dreaded ham hocks on the back of my arms-bam it was done! My baby girl even commented that it looked nice and cozy and was surprised when I told her I made it! Once again, I wrote a novel! I just finished a muslin/toile for the first time, for a cardigan, M6708. I span 3 sizes so muslins are necessary. I've never learned fitting or altering a pattern so thats what I'm trying to learn now. Also am tracing off patterns for a couple summer dresses/skirts. Trying to put together a mini mix and match summer wardrobe. Still cool here in Canada so I have a few weeks to pull it off. lol. I like bundle #1 if folks from Canada qualify for the giveaway. The membership fee is small, but you want to make sure you find a group that fits your needs the best. Love both dresses, g rest sewing. Just finished button up blouse, first buttonholes in years! Pleased with results. Want to tackle sewing pants, but nervous of trying to get correct fit. Pack 1 in larger sizes pls. Tks
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
If you can sew buttonholes, you can totally sew pants! May I recommend trying something with a wide leg to start? That way you only need to worry about the crotch and hip, then go into more fitted styles. I think simplicity makes a really nice wide leg woven pant with a yoga style stretchy band that would be great for first time pants fitting. You only have to worry about the crotch in that one!

Hey Nikki congratulations on 3k. I would like to go into the drawing for pack 1. I'm rearranging my room/sewing room right now hoping to get motivated for a spring project. I also emailed my local sewing guild chapter that sound like the best thing. Have a great day!

Thanks, I love messing around with my sewing room layouts, its a whole other sort of fun. I had a really great time with the girls at the ASG, I was really fortunate to find a very diverse group that sews all sorts of things. I know sometimes the trouble is that its only quilting and garment sewists feel left out, but I don't find that to be the case and I love marveling at the beautiful quilts anyway! You just need to find the right local group.

Congratulations on reaching 3,000 subscribers. For us on this end it's not such good news. How can anyone keep up with or stay personal with that many people to respond to? The dresses are lovely, and until you pointed it out, they look like they fit like a glove. LOL, I'm a dreamer and PLAN to make and fit a tee shirt pattern then whip up 10 of them. I think I have a pattern that fits but am debating whether to put in a dart in the back to take up sway back fabric. I do love a loose fitting tee though. What do you think? It's gardening season and I intensely busy with that so don't know when I get around to sewing again though I am in desperate need to tops (and shorts).

Sage, I promise to always do my best to answer each comment individually, also I have no interest in sponsors or blogging, or anything that would take away from what I am doing right now. Also, I am just not organized enough to have people rely on me like that, lol! So, hopefully my numbers wont detract from my quality, but starting graduate school may have an effect. We will have to see what kind of time I have once school starts. I have a strange relationship with swayback adjustments. I know I need one, but I don't know if I need one enough to actually put one in... If you like the fullness, leave it out. Have fun in your garden, I am an indoor plant kind of gal myself, but I do like to see all of my happy plants around me.

Hi, I’m overseas too so won’t enter thank you. I only have black skirts for work or tatty casual ones in my wardrobe so that’s my sewing needed. I have a basic block I drew up last year so can adapt that to make any style. I’m not making a summer jumpsuit, I wore one in the seventies and can’t be faffed with bathroom issues. Glad you have found a social sewing group. Your dresses suit you so well. Well done.

The 15 Question Sewing Tag! It would be great if you could make a video and answer these questions (if you want!): What is your favorite online fabric store? What’s your favorite fabric (cotton, rayon, etc.) and brand of thread to sew with? What sewing technique are you not very good at but would like to master? Do you use a universal needle for all sewing projects, or do you use a “speciality” needle (jersey, ballpoint, microtex, etc) and different size (0/10, 80/12, 90/14, etc.) depending on the fabric you’re using? Do you usually need to alter a pattern? If so, what is/are the alteration(s) you typically have to make? What is your favorite sewing pattern company? Patterns from which company don’t usually work for you? Do you use a serger? If so, do you serge before or after you sew pieces together? Do you listen to music, podcasts or have the TV on when you sew? What is your dream sewing machine? How often do you abandon sewing projects? What’s your sewing technique for a curved hem (if you have one)? Do you have any “bad” sewing habits? Do you iron your pattern pieces? Do you have a favorite sewing book and/or magazine?

Hi Nikki LOVE the McCall's dress! Beautiful! I have the pattern but I've never opened the envelope for fear of dealing with the pintucks lol. Can you tell me more about the tucks? How many? Are they long? I also like the McCall's 7349! Beautiful! That print is adored! Great video!
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
I misspoke, they are just regular tucks and very easy to do! Its like making a dart, but both ends are open and the lines are parallel. As long as you mark your fabric carefully you will do just fine! There are two per panel and there are four panels. They are great for fitting because you can just reduce the width or increase it as needed without messing up the rest of the dress. Sewing in the tucks was one of the quicker parts of construction on this dress, highly recommend giving it a try!

I'm dreaming of sewing little girl's dresses. I bought some quilters cotton from an online group/woman was raising money for her daughter's surgery. I had no real intention of purchasing fabric, but I'm a sucker for helping a child. I figured the best thing I can do with this unintentional fabric is to make dresses to either donate to a women's abuse shelter or to send to Africa. I'm now on the hunt for a free dress pattern. I have four different fabrics @ 2 yards each. The fabrics are lovely colored plaids of sorts, so I prefer something easy that I can add some lace or rickrack to. I'll gladly take any suggestions for free patterns that anyone wishes to offer. Ironically enough, if you care to bestow a prize pack on me, I would prefer number 1. The kid stuff...I'm on a kid kick right now. Congratulations on the new milestone! Your channel will only gain more popularity with time.

Eliana, that sounds like a really generous plan! I'm sure there are a lot of little girls who would love new dresses.
