Love catching up with you. I did 3 muslins for a blazer that I am making with Whitney at TomKat stitchery sew along. I refuse to throw in the towel! Not only making size adjustments to 8 body pieces (princess) but then there is a bag lining that had to match up, facing pieces plus vents at back and on sleeves! At least I am learning a lot! I have high hopes! Luckily I have fun projects waiting for me. Big congrats on school acceptance, very exciting!!

@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
It was really nice! The good thing about the group that I will be joining is that they don't just sit in a room and watch someone present, or lecture on a topic and go home. They bring their machines in once a week and go from 9-2 and just sit and sew together and talk. Very informal and they have cutting tables and irons going and everyone is wandering about showing off their projects. It was welcoming and I loved every minute of it.
@susankennedy63515 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your new lifes' adventure! And I love it that you show us your fails...keeping it 100 as they say. I went into my sewing space today and the only thing I could muster up was tracing a real old loose fitting Butterick top to see about doing a color block and then maybe lengthening it to make a dress. And then I slapped some homemade bias tape around the armhole of an old fleece jacket and VIOLA! I have a vest for our upcoming rainy season. I laughed and shook my head on the way out and remembered some of my moms' advice..'some days are just not meant for sewing.'
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
Susan, keeping it 100 is my new motto for the channel. I think its important and helpful to others to show where things go wrong so they can either avoid it, or so they don't feel so bad about when their own projects go off the rails! It happens to us all. I think there is a lot of pressure on social media to be perfect and to do perfect things and that just isn't the reality of life. So, you will always get real talk from me!
@susankennedy63515 жыл бұрын
@@SewingatMidnight Great perspective Nikki, and kudos to you for telling it like it is. I'm your moms' age, have been sewing for over 50 years (with time off while doing other things life throws at you) and I stll run into problems. I really appreciatie when you ladies with your channels show us what can go wrong and how to fix it, or why that fabric really won't work with that pattern. That's valuable info for the newbies out there. Good work!

Congratulations getting in RX School. My hubby is a Pharmacist. Also, I never noticed before what pretty blue eyes you have! Must be the new color walls behind you. Don't feel bad. I'm not sure it's that life just goes that way some times, but it certainly is the way a Vogue pattern often goes. I have a similar Vogue pattern and it was one hassle after the next. I saw it on Natural Dane's channel and it was gorgeous! But sewing it - is it just Vogue? Dart issues, fit issues, lining issues . . . ugh. Makes you want to just give up on Vogue altogether. Maybe sticking to their less structured patterns is the key. I had a string of "didn't work" projects when I was doing that, so maybe that influenced my opinion. I do have a lot of Vogue patterns - And congrats on Pharmacy school! I hope the dress does work out because it's so cute. Good luck!

Hi Nikki, congratulations on pharmacy school acceptance. A suggestion for the dress where you split the dart, I presume that you did that because of the dart bulk (too much fabric in dart), is not to split it; instead cut out the excess fabric by putting in a seam on dart legs. I learned this tip from Suzy Ferrer’s drafting bodice course on Bluprint. Hope this suggestion is helpful.
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole! I actually did remove the bulk from the dart by cutting off the seam allowance, but I don't think it was a bulk issure, rather and angle issue. That dart is so wide that it is almost 90 degrees, that is what made it pointy, not too much fabric behind the dart. I split it to make the angle smaller so that it could taper more. The dart was just too short to handle that wide of an angle. Good idea though, it was worth trying it out!

Lovely to catch up Nikki. Massive congratulations on getting into pharmacy school, I sense you worked your socks off for that! Pharmacists here are starting to take on a much bigger role now. We are being encouraged to seek advice from a pharmacist before seeking out a doctor. The pharmacist will take you in a private room and give you a consultation and then signpost if necessary. Does that happen in the US? I think its a poor answer to a big problem of doctors being inundated. Its only so long until pharmacists say it impeds them from doing their own job. Saying that, I think I'd trust a pharmacist more than a general practice doctor because their knowledge of medicines will be that much better. Im rambling now. Loved the vid x
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
That is really interesting! So, our retail pharmacists (the ones who work only at the drugstore itself) are able to give flu shots now, which does take the burden off of our clinics and hospitals, also they do consult with people who are looking for over the counter medicines to alleviate common non-emergency problems, but they really cant prescribe medications. There is a push toward something called clinical pharmacy which requires extra training, where you would work on a team with doctors to assist them in the prescribing part of the patient care which is something I am leaning toward. I will keep you posted on how it works. I have about of year of school to get through before they let me anywhere near a patient! Thank god for the patients on that!

Hey pretty girl, you look fantastic in that blouse! I'm so excited for you! Hugs to furbaby! I gave up buying fabric from Joann's, I buy from Stylemakers, fabricmart, fabric.com, thousandbolts for quilting. I do buy Joaan's online scrapbooking sale items and instore sale patterns/magazines occasionally though. Just some things you can't beat if they are on sale there! Hugs, how is that Arizona weather treating you? I'm in Michigan (with your mom) and we are not enjoying the warm, then cold, then hot, then cold, weather bullcrap!

Hi Tina! I have been steering well clear of my fabric sale emails so that I don't go too far astray! I am loving the weather, Tim and I have been enjoying our back patio in the afternoons and loads of sunshine on the weekends. I think I really love the consistency of the temperature, I definitely do not miss that yo-yo nonsense in Maryland! However, I need to sew myself more hot weather stuff!

I am so excited for you! You are going to be great, I just hope you still have time to vlog!cute Meouser, I think of her when I try to tape and my cat messes with my tripod. He utterly ignores it at all other times. 😈

I am going to do my best to make time for both sewing and vlogging, but I have heard the first year is particularly difficult, so I may need some leeway from everyone!

I expect it will be very challenging and you might not have much spare time. I do encourage you to find a few minutes to sew at least weekly because it will help keep you balanced. Use the principal of 10-20-30 minutes to sew, just find a way. You don’t need to feel a pressure to vlog, though your channel is very fun to watch. As to that Vogue dress...are you sure it is even your style? When you were talking about it I just had a mental flash of you and your man (his name eludes me), and the Liberty of London fabric. The style lines are cool, but are they you? Just for fun, try taking two washcloths and make pretend shoulder pads for the top you are wearing, slip them in folded in half on each side and see if it improves the neckline. It almost seems like it is just a bit too long in the torso.

Congrats on school and now you are over 3K. What are the links to the other KZbin sites you were referring too.

Sherry, there are two things that I absolutely always forget about, one is attaching something to an email that is specifically about the attachment, the other is linking a youtube channel that I said I would link. I went back and added the link in the description for everyone. Thank you for the well wishes and you know what 3k subscribers means....giveaway time!

Why don't you baste on the seam line of your sleeve and neckline so you don't have to guess at the take up?

That's a really good idea!
