What do you say can help coloraturas (I consider myself a coloratura mezzo) belt? I've been mixing for so long and I struggle getting relaxed enough to belt G on the staff and above!

i have a question, when I sing high notes ( really high) I feel there's a transition (to my nose but it doesn't sound nasal), is not head voice because it's still kinda loud, is it mix voice? it happened unintentionally but I realized it feels "healthier" (? than the way I was doing it. I don't know if it's pleasing to hear tho because I don't like when people hear me singing 😊 but anyways is it okay to do that?

I wonder if this all depends on the fach and style of the singer. I've been really struggling to smoothen out the transition from my chest voice to mixed voice, to head voice and it just wasn't working out until I realised that I can bring up my chest voice way higher than I thought and it helps disguise the register change way better than anything else I've tried so far. So I've been experimenting with adding 'light chestiness' and it's really helping me create a better middle range. Earlier I just tried to add 'head resonance' to my middle range but it wasn't helping me smooth out the break point because I actually pretty much try to use the 'mask' and all of that head resonance all the time anyway, in my lower range as well. So there was no room to add more of that. And I was already singing a bit too quietly, so going even lighter wasn't gonna work. Anyway, I suspect I'm a contralto, and because I quite enjoy and feel comfortable using my lower range, much of my voice is quite 'dark and chesty' anyway. My lower range does not sound good if I try to sound very light so diluting the difference between my registers by lightening my lower range doesn't really work. And then it doesn't really sound good if I try to keep my middle range very 'light' - the difference between the registers is just awkwardly prominent. So adding chest voice to the middle range has really been the best way for me to 'unify' my voice.

Thank you very much! This explains a lot and was a huge help. Btw I dont know if you are aware but your audio is off track with the video. It's just by a few seconds but it is noticeable when you do examples. I still enjoyed video but wanted you to know.

Great video! This was really helpful. I have an audition coming up and I would like to sing Me and The Sky. If you can, could you make a "How To Sing That Song" video on it? It would help me so much! Your videos in general help me so much. 💕

Maria Callas was not a lyric soprano, in 1949 the musicologist and music critic Teodoro Celli invented, to describe her voice, the locution "Soprano drammatico d'agilità" (in US called 'Dramatic coloratura soprano'), i.e. a dramatic soprano (huge, heavy, very very dark soprano voice with metallic/steely timbre) also able to execute coloratura and fast vocal leaps (staccati, trills, gruppetti, appoggiature, acciaccature, picchettati, roulades......) If you wanna hear Callas' agility listen to "Una voce poco fa" a very famous aria from "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" and the mad scene from "Lucia di Lammermoor", you'll find out what a true singer is

It took me so long to find this mixed voice.....it doesn’t appear natural to me. I always had this awful vocal break issue, although I think I can bring me head voice quite down low.....is it the analogy that trying to using the head voice singing feeling, bringing it down to the chest register, way before my vocal breaks would usually occur, and as I go higher and higher close to the vocal break lean into the head voice more until you feel the pressure is being taken off from the throat. But you still needs to have solid rock support in order to push and lighten the chest voice so you can bring it that high so that you can mix...otherwise you only get head voice?

Do you have any tips for developing pitch accuracy, or singing in key with a balanced sound, and coordinating all of the aspects of your singing, like using mix voice?

I am not sure if this is mixed voice, and I would be really grateful it if you could just tell me whether it is. I have an 18second snippet that I uploaded to clyp (online audio sharing platform); clyp.it/et0dxpu3 I apologise for the, erm, all over the place rhythm, it wasnt my focus there xD

Great video! sorry to missed it live :/ As you where talking about Demi Lovato, and I totally agree with you... What about Lady Gaga? I think she is great and has a fantastic tecnique most of the times... do u think so? However, is she really a contralto or is she some sort of mezzo? Ty, regards from Montevideo, Uruguay!!
@stupidobibi4334 жыл бұрын
Lady Gaga is a very good singer : she's got amazing breath support, bringing the sound up (in the so called 'mask') by raising the soft palate, she keeps most of the times the larynx low and has great legato and musicality, with a good vocal range (Bb2-B5). I think she's a Mezzosoprano lirico (lyric mezzo), in fact her tessitura is E3-A5
@stupidobibi4334 жыл бұрын
What might confuse you is her voice's natural dark colour
