Two FREE mods you can do to your 460

I cut off the two Funnels and also cut the bottom air and take box to allow more airflow into the air filter. I’ve had this done for a while and the changes aren’t dramatic but there’s definitely a change I can feel and hear the 7.5 breath a whole lot better. I’m seeing a 1 mile gas improvement and the truck Takes off a lot quicker.

The 460 is one of the most robust gas motors ever built. Unfortunately, Ford never set these big blocks up so they could realize their full potential. My brother bought a new '84 F250 4x4. He put a new manifold, Holly carb, ignition, RV type cam, headers and dual exhaust. Wow, this engine was transformed. Pulled like a freight train and got 16 mpg on highway. Good video. Thanks.

@@Godisgood13208 I know a few mechanics and the answer I got was the low end for shit going bad was 225k, but other guys had seen 300k on the odometer so there’s really no telling

@@Godisgood13208I just bought a ‘97 two wheel drive with 287,000 miles on it. The ONLY problem with it is it has an exhaust leak at the right manifold (seals up when hot).

Now advance your timing to 12° at idle. Wakes it up and takes up for what those were compensating for. You will need to unplug your spout sensor, it just kinda dangles under your brake master. It controls the timing advance. Also, run an Autolite coper plug. Works best with the stock head design

The air intake is behind the grille to keep rain and snow from getting sucked into the air filter.

Also low pressure area 14.9 plus ambient temps like in rush hr traffic and for sound. cutting out velosity stack maybe if lots of wot. There are times when ford had excellent induction E7TE was good for 302,351 n 460 for sure

The intake horns are there to reduce intake noise not to create a "venturi" it's not a race engine. Remove them and see how loud your intake gets, and how much peppier the engine gets

That tube doesn’t restrict airflow, it creates a Venturi effect which shoves more air into the engine which makes it have both more power and run more efficiently.

@@mattlynchy951 That's not what that means. The venturi effect creates different pressures on both sides of the tube. This makes the air flow quicker in the intake. Thus allowing the intake to both take in more oxygen and get that oxygen into the combustion chamber quicker. The cylinder heads work the same way, that's why hogging them out as much as you can isn't the proper way to port them.

i cut off those horns a few weeks ago and i swear it made a difference, including gas mileage, suttle , but nevertheless. 1989 ford xl f250 7.5. still strong at 146000

Thats not supposed to be a ram air duct... Its meant to take in air from a cool dry place. Think about it, if its raining or snowing, would sucking that all in be detrimental to your engine? The direct path is blocked, but air is still allowed to go into that space, so you're still getting cooler air without the risk of water entering through the intake. Also, that dam is there to force air directly through the radiator, assisting with maintaining the optimal temperature by heat dissipation. (It helps keep the engine cool) Also, the valves that you pulled out of the intake tubes may be impeding the best velocity, but thats the way it was manufactured and designed to run. You aren't going to unlock hidden horsepower by taking them out. In fact, you'll only worsen the efficiency of your engine. (Not that it matters that much on a 460) The benefit would be miniscule and unnoticeable.

Under load those hoses will suck together (we have a 460 work truck) wonder if somthing to make them stiffer or a sleeve might keep them from collapsing when you get into it at all 🤔

Removing the air horns on an otherwise stock motor doesn’t do anything for you except eliminate an unnoticeable amount of low end torque. With very mild bolt ons and even more so a cam and heads, removing the air horns is absolutely necessary to get the most out of it.

I seriously doubt that your mods did anything for your MPG or performance. The two inlet venturies are there for NVH, and the vertical plastic piece is an air dam to help direct flow from the high pressure area of the grill opening. Ford engineers do wind tunnel testing, and they know what they are doing. Dyno testing from known 460 performance testers have shown increased performance from deleting the twin inlet venturies, when accompanied with an initial timing adjustment and a high flow air filter.

460 is a torque and hp potential for 1000 hp on stock bottom end. Big cam and good flowing heads and bit of ford know how and my 460 is tested at 642 hp. Yes rear wheel hp. It was 1993 block and i have spent less than 5000 to build. KZbin has cool vids. 460 with 500. Hp is easy simple to do.
