I had a male iguana for almost 19 years (adopted him as a young teen, he fit into the palm of my hand w/ room to spare) he grew into an over 5 ft (snout to tip of tail est., obviously lol), he was a huge beast but the calmest, tamest sweetheart iguana I ever seen (ok, I may be a little biased but seriously he was). His intelligence and awareness never ceased to amaze me. He had free roam of the house with an open cage he could get into w/ a light source for heat (got plenty of humidity too)...he was potty trained and only went in a litter box, minus the litter but with an inch or two of water (it was more a mutual training as they like don't like going where they live/sleep and many like going in water). I have so many hysterical and interesting stories to share but people hate long comments and I'm already at that point...I miss him so much 😩

Wow, that's an amazing life of freedom he enjoyed for 19 years! He was so blessed to have found you. Losing cherished pets is so hard....years go by and I still cry at the thought of our time together and how much I miss them. Thank you for sharing here just a small part of your life with your iguana.

I had a sweet iguana years ago (in the 90s). He was fun and had more personality than people would think. His coloring changed depending on what I fed him. If he was eating more kale, he would be more blue-green. If I gave him more yellow squash and carrots, he would have more yellow-orange highlights. This video is making me miss my sweet funny guy.

My son’s iguana did that. He didn’t tell me he was out and couldn’t find him. I crawled into my bed and buried himself under my pillow. Scared the sh!t out of me. I screamed and my son hollered out “mama found Nac-Nac!” Hw was about 2’ long at the time. He was a cool pet. He was very social. He and the dogs got along really well, that is after the found the business end of the iguana’s tail.

I had a huge Water Dragon, and she was so awesome! She slept in a heated doggie bed, and in the morning she'd jump on my chest to wake me up, and I'd fill two different containers with warm water - one she'd balance on the edge on and poop in (but not even a foot or even a part of her tail would touch the water) and then the other she'd jump in and take a bath and clean herself! From the time she was a tiny baby I'd hold her in my lap and we'd watch TV together. Then when that show 'Dinosaurs' ("not the momma!") I would bring her into the living room and put her on a pillow on the couch - after a few weeks she seemed to figure out what day the show was on, and even the time - she'd run in there and would be on her pillow looking at the TV. And yeah, I think she understood way more than I gave her credit for originally - she definitely knew her name, and she knew words like 'food' and 'snack' and would beg for certain types of foods when she'd see me with them... Anyway, she was amazing - she's still alive, but my then husband got her when we divorced, since he was the one who had originally got her at at the pet store, and he takes just as good care of her as I did.

Green bananas are really high in a digestive resistant starch that is a very good pre-biotic for the gut which bacteria turn into butyrate which is a primary energy source for gut cells. It also does a lot of other good things like reduce inflammation and reduce fat. So I find it weird they wouldn't want them to eat it since it's once of the few great unripe fruits normally recommended for people to eat. It also means the sugar content is reduced so there isn't massive insulin swings.

Who knew I was fluent in iguana, somedays I just surprise myself! The colorful one, the second he clocked the grey, was saying “like F*ck your getting ANY of this! I’m even eating the stuff I hate!” That grey one would of gone for him in a heartbeat, I was expecting it to, but when he, the colorful one, saw the guy literally holding it back, he got brave & went for the food that was being held out to the grey, in iguana that was “hah! You can’t get me, even if you want to, & I’m gonna abuse this privilege to the max you sucker” How’d I do? ….

My mother had a dear friend she was tall and aristocratic looking. She looked like she would fit right in and a royal court with a tiara on her head and jewels on her neck. She also was extremely delicate and how she moved. Her son brought home at iguana one day. Soon after he lost interest. She was a very tender woman, and very caring. She learned everything she could about iguanas and took over its care. It was not long it had to run the house. Sunbathing in the window seats was its favorite activity.. it became quite large, in fact, it took up the entire window seat, and still wasn’t enough room for its tail to fully be supported. I’m not sure if I remember correctly and I’m probably wrong but it weighed in like 30 or 40 pounds. I have no idea what kind of iguana was. Another note that this was in the 1960s. My mother was attending one of her intimate parties of a half a dozen people or so. They had finished eating and now headed to the living room to enjoy and after dinner drink. Right now the sun had gone down. as it turned out, my mother‘s friend thought her maid had put their private dragon away, her maid thought that she had already put the dragon away in an upstairs room that was set up for it. When one of the guests noticed the curtain moving? Then popped up ahead. my mother said it was a beautiful reptile, he moved into the living room, stopped, looked at each guest, and proceeded to the hallway and up the stairs. it was on its way to its room where there was the warmth he had sought after. Mom said it was so funny within a few minutes everyone had to go somewhere . People were terrified of this huge lizard. of course my mother wasn’t afraid, she knew all about it, but the guest did not know that they had a pet dragon of exceptional size. I’ll never forget the day. My mother came home and told me that the dragon had died . (the name of the iguana was dragon. They lived in a small mansion with something like two-story ceiling in the middle of the entryway and a long, circular stairs. Climbed onto a table that was next to the railing, and it fell off all the way down to the floor. The iguana was way too big and heavy to handle such a fall. It had a number of broken ribs. She and her husband rushed to the vet for an emergency. It was euthanized. I do not know how many years they had it, but it was quite a few. I truly think she missed her little dragon.

I have kept green Iguanas for years and they have a bad reputation they don't deserve. In my opinion they are no more aggressive than a tegu or monitor of the same size. If you own a large reptile you need to learn to respect them and learn their behaviors.

2 yrs ago I took in a green iguana from a household that wasn't taking proper care of him. He was mud brown instead of grass green, skinny, and malnourished. To he honest if I didn't take him in it would have died. At first glance I thought I had received a chinese water dragon cause it looked so unlike an iguana. We put him on a diet of eggs and dog food to get him back into good health before giving him a veggie diet. He made a tremendous recovery and was relocated to a 3rd tank my grandparents built from scratch after just a few months because of how fast he was growing to be fair he actually needs a 4th one now. Right when I finally began to bond with him to the point he would sit in my lap like a dog while I cleaned his tank he bit me. He bit so deep that he hit my nerves and I felt no pain whatsoever despite it being the worst wound I've ever received. Thanks to him I got my first stitches that day. Ever since then he's been so aggressive and hostile. I hope one day Boga will be as tame as the iguana u have here.

Had my first experiences with these spectacular creatures when on a surf trip to Costa Rica. Of course, I had to be the Iguana catcher to my friend's delight, as I was bit many times, and my bloody hands and fingers were hilarious to my friends. These were the small ones, and I met my match with some 5 footers who stood their ground, and I chickened out and left them alone. Absolutely love these incredible creatures and your video brought back some great memories.
