While out for a walk on April 27th we saw a little black squirrel in the grass. We thought it was just a young one so we went over to take a look and realized that it was actually a baby who was far too young to be out of the nest.
He was wandering closer to the road and as we went to pick him up we heard his sister crying out from underneath a pine tree. She was on the ground crying out for her mom. At the base of the tree was a piece of nest and there was no sign of the mother anywhere.
I tried picking up the grey girl and putting her in the tree but she could barely hold on. They were too young to be out of the nest and far too young to climb back up.
It was the evening and they wouldn't last long without the mother so we made the decision to take them back home with us.
This will be our hardest rehab yet since they are still too young to go to the bathroom on their own and we're still learning how to stimulate them to go.
Since JJ and Jerry still around our plan is to rehab them until they are old enough and release them in a nearby forest.
