I feel for you. I was an electronics tech in the 80s and 90s and I cannot even begin to tell you how many pieces of equipment are damaged by so called "expert" repair personnel. Look if you are not comfortable working on a particular piece of equipment, do not attempt any further to repair it, close it up, and tell the customer: "I apologize, but due to unforseen issues, I cannot repair this item". It's that simple!!! The person who CAN repair it, won't have to charge as much and doesn't have to be burdened with the damage someone else caused. And the person who matters most (customer) will feel more at ease knowing their item was fixed and will refer you more to their friends and relatives. It helps!!

I agree mate, there's absolutely nothing wrong with simply saying "it's out of my depth, sorry", absolutely no shame in not knowing something. No one knows everything at the end of the day and it doesn't hurt to admit that

@@memermetalthemiddleagedaut99 Exactly you can look at electronics and find out a lot of information without breaking anything. There are a ton of offline tests we can do so it makes you wonder what the hell these people are doing.

In my experience, citing "unforeseen issues" only make things worse, because it tends to make the customer suspicious about the real reason of the refusal. To me, the truth, documented truth, works best, I record and photograph as much as possible, and when a previously damaged device comes to my shop, I inform the customer and depending on his response, I decide if I'm working on the repair or not. Sometimes it's not another shop the culprit, but the customer himself.

It’s amazing to me how some people call themselves an “expert” in repairs and then go and damage the job if you can’t do it don’t claim you can.

Cheers mate. Yeah I ended up buying a whole bag full of usb 3.0 ports for the ps5 because they're common failures, they're a pain in the backside too with how they're designed with filters and small 201 caps right next to the through hole pins so as soon as you use a solder sucker they disappear lol

Once again, your port replacement is clean and looks 100% pro. In case people are wondering WHY certain caps can be removed with no effect , it's due to them only being a filter, pulling stray noise off a trace/pin and sending it to ground.

Thanks for the reply. About small components, I can't remember any monthly period that I haven't blown off a surface mount but for 40 years it's only 480 items. Not so bad in the grand scale of time, just infuriating.
@coladict
@coladict 2 жыл бұрын
There is a good reason to use low-melt solder on the port connections first, and that's because those nearby components can also fall off when the board reaches melting temperature for the unleaded. It's not the only reason, but it should be compelling enough. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's an unnecessary risk. And it's not like a roll of solder is that expensive.

It’s staggering the amount of PS5 console’s we’ve seen you repair, i’m getting a bit worried now. I’ve got the Series X as well but barely ever see you getting them in to fix, it’s always PS5’s and to think how hard it was to get too! Any tips or suggestions on ways to look after it/maintain it any better? Or any settings that need to be changed? I bought a cover for both and always cover them up after use so that no dust, smoke that leads to even more dust gets into them. Oh and lastly great content! Least i know where to go if anything ever happens to either console 👍

I'm not a repair technician. But i'm an electronics hobbyist. I sometimes watch this kind of videos for improving my soldering skills. And I almost always learn something new (i trying to see video's from different repair technicians.) I personally like the solder wick for the ground pads. I will try it on some of my scrap pcb's with design errors 🙁. But there is something i don't understand. If u are trying to replace the hdmi port, I assume u have the soldering tools. So why you cant fix the ripped off connector? in my opinion u shouldn't try to do the regular hdmi port replacement anyways or am i wrong ?

Hiya mate if you could be so kind to give me some advice I’d really appreciate it, or anyone else. I’ve been at this for a couple of days now, PS4, BLOD, I’ve tried reflowing the APU which did give it life until attempting to load up a game when set up. Now we’re back to square one. BLOD. However when it does this, I notice most of the RAM chips heat up considerably and what doesn’t help is the fan spins, but never ramps the speed up. Im stuck what to do, do you reckon all or a lot of the ram chips are faulty or the APU has died to death or needs reballing?
