That’s why I have my PlayStation five and PS4 Pro hooked up to monster surge protector I paid almost 3 or $400 for it if you love your electronics you should always have a surge protector to protect you against lightning strikes and it being insured through monster power surge protectors they were the best
@TheCod3r2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree, a lightning rod would work wonders on the side of the building too
@footballasylum62392 жыл бұрын
Dude u well overpaid you can get magnets that clip onto your hdmi for £20 and extension surge protectors which are also covered by your insurance as long as there licensed for £25 for each room, I had a lightning strike it blew my router my ps4 which had every part replaced by insurance before it ran out it was a 3 year what I got when I bought it was connected via ethernet it blew that but was connected to my tv with a hdmi with 2 surge protectors one on each end what saved my tv, now in my gaming room my ps5 and Oled TV were £2500 on there own so I defo trust these surge extensions as they have a side button and when there's a surge it switches off immediately, I sent my ps4 to CEX and said it was unfixable? This was before I found my man here but if your happy spending $400 good on you but surge extensions do just a good a job at a lot cheaper

Hi Phil - Glad to see the edited version of this...watching it live for those hours with you was rough, but I always learn something from your vids. lol Question though, was this video a combo of both PS5 systems? I don't know if I'm missing something or if someone else has already mentioned this, but in most of the video you were looking for a short and you had swapped the South Bridge from a PS5 donor board that you reballed and you mentioned it was the only one you have and if the customer isn't paying you weren't leaving it (for obvious reasons). But then at the end, you mention the chips were real and looking through the comments below and the link to the chip you listed on AliExpress it's all about the HDMI Encoder. So I'm just a little confused..more then normal. hahahahaha So, was this PS5 fixed in the end with the HDMI Encoder or the South Bridge? Thanks! 🙂

Good job Phil. Thanks for the video. Really helpful information there. I've had way too many storm damaged ps5s in my workshop last week. And like yourself spend way too much time on them. Off the wall question: If the signal comes off the APU as a DisplayPort signal, is it theoretically possible (with heavy modding) to replace the HDMI port with a DisplayPort connector and bypass the encoder entirely? Might be an interesting console modding experiment.

Great work on that one! I'll freely admit I had my doubts as to how fixable it was. Also, while not directly applicable to this case, I had a thought about retimer chip. Given the fact they seem to fail so often, do you think they're getting overheated or similar? Would attaching a small heatsink with thermal adhesive/pads do anything?
