Two Seals Joined Together By Fishing Line

Bright early morning sun makes it much harder to spot entanglements. Most mornings are misty and foggy at Pelican Point, but today the rescuers are dealing with blinding sunshine. The rescuers know what to look out for and they spot two seals that are connected through several metres of fishing line. They know that those animals have no chance to survive very long if they do not get help now, and they do their very best to catch them both in separate nets as quick as possible, before they continue to strangle each other. Wally rescues a "side seal" and drags him along to his team mates to help them with the double rescue.
The lack of infection and visible cuts makes us believe that this double entanglements was caught very early, both seals had not been affected much, and they will continue their lives healthy and strong, as they should. It is our best case scenario in a horrible and totally avoidable situation. 🦭

Especially for the little guy because obviously the bigger one will just drag the smaller one around. Which is probably why and how her line got so tight around her neck. But thank God OCN found them in time and both 🦭's made it. 🙏 . Also, thank goodness the team caught them in the nick of time, right before they made it further into the ocean.

Watching this for over a year now totaling thousands of rescues by these guys it dawns on me that as they are freeing these animals and making a huge impact in the region, the seals are helping to clean up the oceans--at least in some small but measurable way. Both parties are acting heroically.

As an asthmatic myself, I'm always sensitive to the seals that can breath properly again. It's really annoying not to be able to. It effects everything! I really felt that line getting cut! It was a intense rescue! The large seal almost ran away and was dragging the small seal with it. Well, the third puppy is a wonderful bonus with this rescue! Antoine is so sweet, tries to stroke and calm the seal whenever he can. Thank you all!
