The majority of our seals' entanglements can be directly traced back to the fishing industry - but we also have to deal with other rubbish that somehow found its way into the ocean. On this rescue day, we removed a piece of rope from a seal's neck, the rope was likely left behind by beach goers on a day out with the family or friends. The rope was tight enough to leave a deep mark, the seal was barely able to breathe. Somebody's fun beach day almost killed a seal! 🦭

True, it's a great pity the eco-warriors and the well-known ones always upon their speech podiums did not concentrate on plastic waste first, like not using so much and definitely on how it is being dumped everywhere, some of them being the worst culprits.
@realise6
@realise6 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrSyms69 - I'm sorry but I disagree with your statement. We do not not need well-known eco-warriors to tell us anything. We've been told about plastic for decades and yet we continue buying plastic products and packages. And we know cars are the worst at creating greenhouse gas emissions yet more and more people buy mostly trucks and SUVs. Each of us must do our part but most of us can't be bothered because we want what we want and nature be damned.

@@realise6 Speak for yourself, I don't use new plastic bags I have hessian bags and well-made plastic bags purposely bought for their longitude and I have reused them over and over thousands of times for many years, both sets will see me out, I do not replace plastic items unless necessary, and could manage without most plastic items.no way would I drive a fuel-guzzling vehicle. As for greenhouse gas, you do realise undersea volcanos burp all the time 24/7 and have been burping long before humans arrived it's what made the earth GREEN, all the time creating more 'carbon footprints' than humans could in thousands of years.

@@realise6 Thank you for re-stating the point made by Eddy Syms. You have provided an example of an Eco-person who is focused on "greenhouse" gas emissions...to the point of ignoring the main points of a video which presents actual cases of suffering. The seal shown in this video was not suffering from "greenhouse gas emissions". He was suffering as a consequence of the careless use of a plastic product, by humans seeking the enjoyment of a camping trip.

Kudos to Wally for his release ropes, as they certainly make releasing these big seals much safer for the team. Perhaps the loop this bull got his head into had been used to tie up a bundled tarp, as opposed to the loops OCN finds at Cape Cross which seem suspicious, as if made just to entrap seals. This bull would have been dead before long. I think dragging the weight of that length of rope made it pull tight. Thanks OCN for being ready to jump in (and on) to help the seals regardless of size or circumstance!
