Totally agree with what you said about the Cubitus. It’s an incredibly lazy effort. Well done for being honest with how you feel.

If it was just 5mm smaller and had a shaped movement that would of been a start. But the real fury comes from the layout of the platinum's dial, nothing short of a mess. A lazy and arrogant watch. Great video!

Such a good assessment of the Cubitus. Every word resonated with me. When you look at the AP and the H08, for example, there’s so much more elegance and inventiveness that blows the Cubitus out of the water. Really refreshing to hear people unafraid to say so, too. Top stuff! 🙌

Also, kudos for highlighting the Hermes H08. I have the version on the titanium bracelet and it hadn’t occurred to me how it’s a much more cohesive, original, and wearable design than the Cubitus.

this new PP will likely find some nicknames among collectors....but I will be calling it the "stupidus" ...an answer looking for a question. The incorrect answer at that. Also, disappointed in the comments by Thierry Stern.

You guys nailed it. It's not the worst watch in the world, but it's a new Patek, and we all expected infinitely more. It's the ugly brother of something we already had.

I don't understand why PP called it a _Cubitus_ - IIRC, that literally means _elbow_ in Latin.

got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MAMACOO 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.

I feel the Cubitus shows real insecurity from Patek, its a square Nautilus, theres nothing new or dynamic about it, it’s pretty embarrassing tbh, but they’ll sell loads.

Good commentary and examples, gents! Honestly, the comment around design being fresh and correct proportions are the two prime takeaways here. The cubitus on it's own is just boring as it's own objective thing, but when you compare it to the nautilus that's where the real disappointment hits hardest. I adore the new Anoma brand, MB&F/MAD studious is always killing it and for simplicity of design with care Kurono Tokyo steals the show. In the classics Cartier stands supreme and in the avant-garde Bvlgari just rocks!

The Cubitus is a classic example of when you are trying to do something new but too afraid to actually do something new, so you end up with a bad compromise that makes no one happy (except the ones that will probably speculate on it)

Interesting to see so much of the conversation revolved around smaller case sizes. I'm all for it and would love to see an industry shift to more elegant sizes. I don't have a particularly small wrist but much prefer smaller vintage sizes. As a result there is almost nothing that appeals to me in the modern Rolex / Patek catalog. I spoke with my AD about this and asked why everything was pushed out +40mm. They said US is the biggest market and they still all buy bigger. I'd be interested to see if this is true and if subdials market stats back up the consumer demand for larger sizes vs small. It could just be in in the small echochamber of people that dive into vintage and then recalibrate their taste for smaller watches.

After the wrist check, you guys should do vest/jacket/shirt check's :p you guys have such nice leather jackets. I completely agree with your points of view on the Cubitus. Patek will forever be holy trilogy but because of the mismanagement, they will loose interest from horology connoisseurs.

I love the simple cubitus with that green dial. Of course its perfect for big wrists. So, smaller sizes must come, but I do love it and I don’t care if it’s a variation of the nautilus. I love the ears, even more than in the nautilus. It looks artistic, architectural .

Exactly, the Cubitus is just a very bad concept copy of the square AP Royal Oak. Totally missed the mark. Mr. Stern has no competence in designing a watch imho.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I have the impression that there are at least 2 types of Patek owners: 1-the more traditional, non-sports watch owners and 2-the sports watch owners. I don't think the latter category really care about what the company head says; they will go for the hype sports watches anyway. But the more traditional, non-sports watch Patek owners will be put off by the comments, since they are not how any proper company chief should represent himself and his business.

It’s a status symbol of course. Flash that at your posh golf or yacht club. Or at a high end boutique hotel in Dubai. It’s for rich guys who like to show off. And have cash to hose away. It also shows Patek may have painted themselves aesthetically into a corner. Possibly some kind of desperate design move. The looks are questionable but the quality is next level.

Who makes that watch box?! Great show gents. I’m not particularly jarred by the Cubitus. The Offshore was panned when it first came out. Any iteration on the Nautilus was bound to get planned. Let’s not kid ourselves. The Cubitus will grow on everyone soon enough. The Code 11:59 has already. It’s just another attempt at growth and differentiation. I’m no watch designer but I like seeing what is in the minds of Patek or others. Just appreciate for what is is. A lower value Aquanaut.

Tim couldn´t be more right with the Cubitus. Thierry fucked it up but it will still sell. Anyway Patek lost a little bit of its magic with this release. Everything they did before with their more classical watches was god-tier but a 45mm square Nautilus looks just wrong. And I am sure it will still look wrong in 10 years.

I think: 1. History shall prove you both wrong. 2. People are intentionally misinterpreting TS’s comments to place him in the worst light possible. 3. The great majority of those complaining about the folly of the Cubitus online are NOT PP owners, and also never will be-exactly at TS stated.

2 peas in a pod reinforcing their own beliefs. As soon as I heard Cartier, you totally lost me. I've tried all 3 cubitus on and they wear MUCH smaller than headline figure. That being said, you need a large, masculine wrist to get away with wearing it. So smaller, thinner wrists won't work. They are going to release smaller so let's see.
