That was an outstanding job by everyone, especially Phoenix controllers in busy rush hour! Keep in mind the scope only displays both subject aircraft, would you like an untrimmed version with all the radar and traffic in the area? Perhaps it was trimmed but I never did hear either Pan Pan or Emergency declared. Perhaps it was just trimmed. Trying to avoid a bunch of paperwork, perhaps. But definitely opening themselves up to scrutiny if anything goes south. I'm hoping we just didn't hear the declaration. History has shown ATC is pretty quick to declare for the pilots if they don't.

There used to be a VOR at the east end of KPHX, North of ASU's Sun Devil Stadium, called SPARKY. I don't think it exists anymore, which makes me sad. It's kind of redundant, since you still have to follow the Salt River when flying on that side of the airport.

IMO shouldn't be a problem. They have plenty of runways. The only issue would be trying to split the fire brigade between the two flights. I don't know if airports and ATC actually train for multiple emergency scenarios. Any pilots and/or ATC folks who can comment on training for such situations?

KPHX has three runways 08/26 is 11,500 feet, 07L/25R is 10,500 feet, and 07R/25L is 7,800 feet. Then there's Phoenix-Goodyear KGYR with an 8,700 foot runway and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway (KIWA) with three runways. 12R/30L is 10,400 feet, 12C/30C is 10,200 feet, and 12L/30R is another shorty at 9,300 feet. Hmm, maybe they are concerned the previous plane leaked oil on the runway, since they landed right before them and had an oil pressure issue. And they didn't want to wait for the crews to check the runway. But that's completely made up, i have no idea what their concerns actually were.

@@z33511in the other video that was 2006 this was the reason. They had loaded and briefed 7L and where happy with it in the end. I imagine when they heard other plane going in on 8, they probably assumed would be closed so they replanned for 7L. And maybe they worried about potential oil or other FOD after 1st plane landed as well. Airport wanted them in 8 to limit runways impacted and less movement of emergency vehicles. But sounds like all worked out both flights.

KPHX has 2 fire stations 1 on the North side between A9 and A10 and in the center of the airport near the T bridge. I am not sure but would also expect the ANG Base to have a fire station as well that could be called upon if needed. The biggest issue is that Sky Harbor only has 2 roads between the N and S side next to the R and T bridges.

Seems AA needs to have a mechanics refresher course.
@FloorItDuh
@FloorItDuh 9 ай бұрын
All airline mechanics go through extensive training and recurrent training. You are essentially asking for the aircraft to never fail in any way possible which is impossible. You can reduce the risk to a point where it seems like it's not there but it doesn't mean it ever isn't. Just like when you drive to work there is always a risk of someone slamming into you at the light while you wait. Beyond your control though unlikely.
@adrianklaver113
@adrianklaver113 9 ай бұрын
@@FloorItDuh 1) ATC and pilots go through extensive training and recurrent training, yet this channel is full of instances where that training is not followed and bad things happen or nearly happen. Mechanics are no different, I'm just saying there might a need for the equivalent of a 'call this number'. 2) Your driving analogy does not really work as: a) It is more equivalent to the near miss situations that occur between planes. b) You have not seen how people drive around here. In other words it shades more to likely then it should be.
@adrianklaver113
@adrianklaver113 9 ай бұрын
@@Stacy-w5f You are missing the point, the "interesting" ones arise because there are cases where someone or someones did not follow training/procedure. How many there are is somewhat relevant, but the real point is they happen and those involved should learn from them.

Are there more engine problems than usual lately? Is there some overall problems per thousand flights (or flight miles) or some other metric that gives an idea of overall aviation reliability? Great job by all handling a twofer 👍
@FloorItDuh
@FloorItDuh 10 ай бұрын
There's been more demand than ever to fly and not enough capacity to meet it with that demand continuously increasing. As a result aircraft especially narrow bodies are being flown more than ever essentially the ethos of flown hard put away wet. To put it into perspective a single narrow body can fly on average up to 8 different flights per day depending on the airline and route. Could be more, could be less. As a result just like your car the more you drive it the sooner it breaks on you. Component failure is just an unavoidable nature of all man-made things. They will fail eventually. That's why aviation and specifically airlines have continuous maintenance programs where the aircraft are always being worked on both in and out of revenue service. The other complication is unlike your car that spends the majority of its time idle doing nothing airlines cannot afford to do the same as an aircraft is an asset that costs a LOT of money sitting on the ground. There's a reason in the scheme of things you don't see many transport category aircraft in long term storage. There's also parking fees that aircraft accumulate sitting on the ground in storage. The economics behind it are very different than what most people factor when all they see on the front end is they walk into a plane, fly somewhere, and their experience with it is over.

@@737simviatoragain I circle back to the safety record. Just because there is more visibility than ever before doesn't corelate to an increased frequency. These incidents are somewhat normal it's just that the system has gotten to such a point it can be dealt with safely outside the most extreme circumstances like an act of God. That system worked exactly as intended and thus while something did happen the controls established to deal with it did their job turning it into a non-event outside a bunch of people having to alter their plans.

AA would have much better luck with their Airbuses if they’d just maintain them better. They aren’t much better with Boeing planes.
@FloorItDuh
@FloorItDuh 10 ай бұрын
@@MastrCakeBut they do maintain them to the same FAA and manufacturer standards as everyone else. Statistically all of the airlines hover around the same metrics in terms of performance in grand scheme of things. It might not feel that way as there's little tricks you can do with swapping aircraft but that's not always an option especially during the heavy flying season times.
@jackielinde7568
@jackielinde7568 10 ай бұрын
The problem is that Boeing hasn't made any new 757s in decades, and most airlines are in the process of mothballing the 757 and looking for different aircraft. Bringing a plane out of hibernation is a monumentally expensive task, especially for ones that spare parts might be in limited supply. And generally, the 737s aren't bad aircraft, or they wouldn't be Boeing's #1 product by planes in the sky.
