A few comments on the advantage of a Rotary Valve. 1. There is no lag time as there is with reed valves and no blow back when the pressure comes against them and tries to close them. 2. There is no vacuum created under the piston like in the PP systems and the air flow can be longer. 3. The Rotary Valve does however place a small load on the engine but timing can be more accurate improving the intake flow..

My friend's 70s Kawasaki was a rotary valve , My 1988 CR 500 was a reed valve , Boysen reeds were the hot tip.

Seems like Kawasaki KX125 1975 had a rotary valve. I rode one and it would come on the pipe immediately without revving or having to Fan the clutch. Unfortunately it had the suspension of a go-kart and handled like one! Could not enjoy The Ripping engine, it felt like there was no suspension on either end. Rough ground would make the handlebar slap the tank! It was not my motorcycle and I had a decent time writing it that day but it was very disappointing to not be able to use that 2-stroke rotary valve to its potential. I would later on a 1976 Honda CR125 Elsinore and it would rip like nothing else but you better be prepared to scream that engine and shift gears quickly! Luckily it had one of the slickest shifting Transmissions I have ever experienced, barely nudge it and it had the gear. Hardly ever missed a gear and would corner like a roller coaster on Rails. Making me go back in time and remember team Honda Rider Marty Smith. Back when two strokes ruled and made riding dirt bikes affordable. Two Strokes still dominate in my book. But I have to admit four strokes have came a long way, at a very high cost.

The bicycle mount engine kit is piston ported! they are a hot cheap item on ebay. I have two, first thing is to get strong mount bolts because they are the first thing to break, every thing else just needed to be tight. A reed valve kit is optional and the piston would need a port hole. But im happy with the dual spark plug racing high compression head.
@2STROKESTUFFING7 жыл бұрын
+Daniel DeNapoli Thanks for the heads-up on the bolts! Dual sparkplug head you say?

All can be found on ebay including copper head gasket pull start option and chopper mount plate, banana exhaust chamber ..its an aluminium Chinese engine ,advertised as an 80cc engine but its really a 66cc engine and piston ported its not EPA or Carb approved. I have one mounted on a homemade scooter with the chopper engine mount. .

The dule sparkplug head is optional hard to find on ebay for about 50 bucks thinking of getting it to be like the old 1970s enduro dirt bike that had it. you can have duo ignition or switch plugs if one becomes fowled

Piston port intake are most common on chainsaws and such hand tools due to it's simplicity. Radne's go-kart engines are one of few larger engines that have piston port intakes, 14hp in their 120cc isn't very impressive but they run forever and are very reliable.
@kaulincurtis96655 жыл бұрын
Many older snowmobile engines are piston port as well. Polaris triples, for example. Some as large as 800 cc, routinely making well over 100 hp with triple pipes.

@@2STROKESTUFFING what is the dyno comparison b/w PP and Reed valve on a bicycle engine?
@MrPuusilima2 жыл бұрын
I have thinked about that, could a rotary valve actually act same time like a littlekind of charger?? If the valve would be done correctly notched, it could compress air fuel mix in. And also it could act as a flywheel too, partly offcourse, but it would act like a timed supercharger, shoveling air into motor. Desing could be just like plate working, or something like hamsters running wheel type.. or combined..somehow to get little bit pressure first, and when the valve opens BOOM! Mixture shoots in..

So which valve type is the most efficient or which can give the most power? How critical is the crankcase volume? Does a piston ported engine have more low speed power? How come the engine designers at Stihl, Husqvarna, NovaRossi, Yamaha, etc never watch KZbin videos and comment here?

Question, can a rotary valve 2 stroke kawasaki engine be ported if so how? If not why? I cant find anything online about it
@rennierrodil61194 жыл бұрын
I have one, and yes it can be ported. You can also adjust the design of the rotary disc to adjust it's port timing. ( I don't know it my English terms were right, but thats what we do here in the Philippines.) We have many rotary valved motorcycle models here. For example, the Kawasaki HD3, (exact same engine as bushwacker 175, but with smaller 125cc block. We also have Kawasaki Brutus 140 which have the exact same engine as bushwacker 175 but with smaller bore of 58mm. And some Suzuki gp 125s
