Two thunderous B-1 Lancer night launches - RAF Fairford

It was tricky filming these B-1B Lancers in the dark, but these jets were absolutely stunning to see after sunset on the 23rd October.
Under the call signs of DARK 61 (86-0140) and DARK 62 (86-0136) these jets departed just after 6:30pm, and their callsign was very fitting, until the burners came in of course.
These jets are on deployment with the 9th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron EBS executing Agile Combat Employment during a Bomber Task Force Europe mission. These jets have been conducting hot pit refuelling at RAF Fairford and Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany as well as flying missions over the Baltic region and the Black Sea.
The B-1 has to be the current highlight of military aviation for me. What a treat to be rattled by these jets 😎😎😎

I heard the noise, stepped out through the kitchen door and looked up. Already into the low cloud, but visible because both afterburners were still engaged, clearly the outline of Bone number 1. A few seconds later more noise and the streak of light in the cloud then the passing of Bone number 2. Magnificent sound as they banked away heading out for their night time mission. I suspect a few inhabitants in Cirencester moaned about the noise intrusion into watching some rubbish on TV!!

Tremendous stuff - went for the nocturnal sorties during Kosovo ‘97 when they were *really* loud as they were ‘loaded for Bear’ with 20 tonnes of ordnance each😱👍🏻

@@UKAviationMovies i have never seen this plane take off in real. i think when you stand there and the engines start to run at full power and that he start to make speed that it would be an ear schattering loud rumble and taking off. and that you can feel it ass wel. i have seen videos on youtube of this plane taking of with full throttle and that the car alarms going off. or am i wrong? and by the way awesome shot

It's a different noise. The B-1 is a lot more bassy than the Hawk, but yes, it's a lot louder!

Great shots! Question when watching these beasts take off: how much fuel does a B1 burn on take off?

Someone asked this on one of my older videos I seem to remember. On full burner a B-1 burns 111 imperial tons of fuel per hour. That's 1.85 tons per minute, so a 2 minute take off roll and climb out would burn around 3.7 imperial tons of kerosene, around 8200 lbs 👍 On take off these kets are operating at about 150 tons take off weight. Pretty mind blowing numbers really.
