The 1858 range is fantastic. I happened to notice someone wear a 1858 Geosphere last week. The dial is instantaneously recognisable to those in the know, but the watch is actually quite subtle from a distance.
I'm thinking London is highlighted on both watches because it's GMT, not because those watches were sold in Britain or anything like that.

Like some people love dive watches or field watches, I love GMT world time watches - and these two are beautiful. The Orbis Terrarum comes in another color scheme too, a blue and white motif if you prefer that to the geographic rainbow color scheme. I would take either of these watches in a heartbeat.

I do think that it's a nice looking watch but my main complaint with analogue world timers is that they don't/can't account for Daylight Savings Time. In general, the northern and southern hemispheres incorporate DST at complementary times but beginning and ending dates vary and some cities/states/countries do not observe DST. It would be nigh well impossible to deal with this issues on a mechanical timepiece. For that reason, I'm willing to settle for a watch with a GMT hand and a rotating bezel. In that way, I can, at least, keep track of local time, UTC, and one city of interest to me. It's not perfect but it's usually sufficient.

I don t understand how the montblanc works.. There is a half black disc that moves to show the day/night indication?
@Portland_Living_Life5 жыл бұрын
Around each globe is a day/night indication with hour marks. The globes rotate within this indication. The hours are very hard to read (small), but you quickly learn where 6AM, noon, 6PM, and midnight are indicated and then can tell the time anywhere quite easily.
@boballen18933 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you’re asking about the Orbis Terrarum? Yes, the disk under the map disc, is half dark blue, and half colored. It shows you night and day around the world. I have one, and I simply love it!
@menaseven90935 жыл бұрын
The most useful complications in a watch are day, date, GMT, perpetual calendar and World time. The Montblanc Heritage Orbis is a beautiful world time watch. I like the Orbis dial with the beautiful map and city names. The Montblanc Geosphere two spheres on the dial are very innovative. the 7 red dots on the map symbolizing the 7 highest mountains in the world is very nice. I would have like the city names to be included in the Geosphere dial or bezel.
@juanaguilar74584 жыл бұрын
I always find myself looking back at Montblanc. As someone who can't drop more than 10k on a watch collection, it becomes difficult because I think a collection of 3 montblancs might be a little off.
@conannanoc87682 жыл бұрын
Very clever idea. I liked it better in the Villeret Geospheres Vasco da Gama (which was big and expensive as hell). This one makes better use of the dial space (not having to display a tourbillon helps a lot) but the colour makes it look unnecesary vintage. My concern with this is: is it really practical? Can i get an accurate reading of the time in Japan at a glance or will i need a loupe?
@willelliott5052 Жыл бұрын
I have never held one, but I think that you mostly rely on the small hour dial for the remote location of interest. And because that is a 12 hour dial, if your mind is tired or confused, you might want to also glance at the globe dials, just be sure of whether it is am or pm at that location.

@bilicwatchcompany5 жыл бұрын
It's a nice watch mate, if you like it then go for it. It's movement mimics those of the ETA 28-24 or Sellita sw200-1 both workhorse movements. Everyone needs to have their own watch development curve and you should never follow the grain. There are obviously way better brands out there than ML that produce way better watches but if you like it buy it and don't let others persuade you otherwise, just please get the 39mm lol
@conannanoc87682 жыл бұрын
Very well finished watch. When on the wrist, it's frankly amazing. It is reasonably thin, and has 200m of water resistance, which makes it a true sports watch. The movement is nothing extraordinary, and the fact tgat it's a bit homagey may put you off. I think it still has its own personality, though... I tried both the 39mm and 42mm and liked both. One is more dressy, the other more sporty. Maybe not the best bang for your buck but i doubt you will dissappointed.

The 1858 Geosphere in Bronze is my (cheapest) grail watch which i'm looking forward to getting in the future. Although for the price i wish it was an in-house movement instead of a Selita one, i can't see anything about it that i dislike

I love world timers but I would go for Frederique Constant World Timer rather than a Montblanc
@boballen18933 жыл бұрын
I initially wanted a Frederique Constant, and actually owned a Christopher Ward C1 Worldtime. Having said that, I sold the CW and put the money towards the Orbis Terrarum 4810. In my opinion, the other two aren’t nearly as useful, or easy to use, as the Montblanc! The Montblanc gives you the extra day/night complication, and if you travel, just a push of the pusher sets your local time! Again, only my opinion!

Only thing about the Montblanc World timers is the movement itself is rather pedestrian using either a Selitta base ebauche or an ETA variant,. It diminishes the desireability for me. Lovely, but Richemond should have rather given the talent, ability and capacity of Montblanc to companies with heritage like IWC, Panerei, Cartier or Piaget and perhaps save Baume & Mercier! Instead they're trying to build a brand reputation, pedigree and respect for Montblanc, that will always be bullied as a "pen-maker". Love those watches. It is really impressive. Pre-owned they're having an amazing low price, because the brand is so soft
@noelmcdonagh39055 жыл бұрын
All those other brands would up absorbed Minerva and you would never here about it again. That would have been horrible. Sadly, a majority of NA are merit badge purchasers which make it difficult for all brands outside of Rolex, Cartier, AP & PP

I have had this watch for over a year, and I like it a lot. In the 16 or so months that I have been collecting, It is one of four relatively expensive watches that I have bought new. I had to send all the others back for repair. The Grand Seiko stopped advancing the date, the Hamilton stopwatch would not stop reliably, and the Christopher Ward with COSC certification ran as much as 19 seconds slow each day. Only the MontBlanc has treated me well, and I would buy another.

@@Cervando the mechanics will still work if both locations switch between winter time to summer time; however, the problem arises when (1) one country like Turkey stops doing so, plus (2) she stops at ST (i.e., practically in GMT+3, instead of its original position of GMT+2) - you can interpret this positively if you only visit southern parts of Turkey in summer (lol) but it would definitely be overthinking, and obviously two wrongs should not make a right

Nice video and presentation and pretty awesome machinery for a watch although I'm not sure of its real usefulness of the 1858 Geosphere. The Montblanc Orbis Terrarum as well as, Orient Journeyman, JLC Geophysic, Breitling Transocean and I'm sure there are a few more out there that show the world time continuously in both hemispheres on a regular easy to read dial. I think Montblanc as well as Breitling and JLC could just lose the graphic and settle the north south east west issue. I use an Orient Journeyman and I pretty much live by it on my job. I work in places where phones and smart watches are not allowed and I often don't have time to push buttons and spin wheels to see the time in other cities.

@theprovincial5 жыл бұрын
You mean Breitling vs. Mont Blanc? I've owned both and can tell you there's considerable more value in Mont Blanc when buying new as it's something of a up and comer. Breitling depreciates dramatically after purchase and it's common to find their iconic pieces for 50% of retail. Having said that I still own the Breitling and not the Mont Blanc. The Navitimer is an iconic watch which I'll likely never sell as it's a beautiful piece of horology.
@theprovincial5 жыл бұрын
@Mark Michael It really depends what you're buying. Mont Blanc has three tiers of watches the Villeret and 1858 lines at the high end using in house movements made by Minerva. At under $7k the 1858 Geosphere is competitive with other watches in it's category and can likely be heavily discounted. I would avoid Mont Blancs low tier watches however as these are comparable to Longines and Tissot.
