Correct, It's a Matchless G50. 500cc single cylinder. Overhead chaindriven cam. Amal GP carburettor. It sounds so good because they raced on an open 'megga' or megaphone exhaust. They had no kickstart so he had to bump start it. There was a smaller version from AJS, the 350cc 7R. Just playing the video again as I type this and my hair is standing on end. I used to pit crew for Malcolm Clarke at Brands Hatch.. He had one of each.

It's a BSA, apart from the timing cover and pushrod tunnel, the BSA badge on the tank is clearly visible at 4:00 exactly..

I may be wrong but that looks like the old Mount Druitt race track, by the looks of the surrounds, the slight rise up the hill and the bush along Ropes Creek and power lines in the background. But this was well before my time.

Lots of bikers who got wounded and sadly died back in the days without proper gear. We still do from time to time but some of us out there on the bike learned with better gear and bikes.

Not a Matchless G50. Wrong forks and frame. Developed in 1958 and went into production in 1959. It took a year to get from UK to Australia back then. Great movie.
