Factory cranks can be .002-.004” out when new. I bet he’s .001-.003” so he’s good. I do want to use dial gauge to see how good he did. Low hp India scooter don’t need perfection. In my opinion.

Why you go on hitting before balancing the crankshaft ? Why don't you try to use Dial Gauge ? It's not the correct

Most fitting title to the video would be " How NOT to rebuild a crank shaft". Every SINGLE procedure in the video goes against the principles of mechanical engineering, from dirty rags, to thread repair after fixing the bearings where the chances of metal chips getting lodged in the bearing is 99%. If anyone wants to learn anything from this video, it would be on how to avoid a street side approach to assembling a precision component. Disgusting, if there be one word to describe this video.

It's all they have , where exactly do you think they are anyway . Maybe he could get the ckicken to X-ray the crank before lunch because he's on the menu . Its about making do and it shows ingenuity , plus they might not eat or buy medicine if the vehicle is off the road. Inernet must be very affordable luckily

I agree with this comments. I am teaching my “mechanics’ Howe to rebuild the cranks as we speak. It’s not that they can not afford dial gauge, or feeler gauge etc. It’s their arrogance and the fact that they have never been to a school to learn anything its all word of mouth like Chinese whispers through generations and the skill is distorted into malpractice along the line. There are no government funded programmes to raise the skill sets off workmen. Politicians are only interested in lining their pockets. For these mechanics work is just means of making money. No real interest in their work not pride in what they do. All what they want is whatever they can make with as little of physical effort as possible. This crank in few months, will affect bearings, piston etc and the engine will screwed in a 12 to 18 months and the owner will be back for another rebuild. These mechanics do not have a benchmarks of quality or standards. Even if they had they are lest bit bothered to push themselves.

Definitely not a technical way to align a crankshaft. Eyeballing the run-out of the crankshaft will result in a run-out of more than 20 microns. For an engine running at high speed, a run-out of even 10 microns will result in a premature failure of the crankshaft and bearings. He has to use a dial gauge and align the crankshaft to within 5 microns run-out. Definitely can't recommend this method.

If you think this method is wrong then I request you to come to us with your own dial gauge and check it. Today we have been doing this work for almost 30 to 35 years. And everyday we change about 20 to 25 crank roads. So far no problem has come.

@@qamarshaikh1881 the difference between the way you are doing and how really you should do it is that, your way the engine will run for 10000 Kms before it has to be overhauled again. You do it the right way, the engine will run for close to 50000 Kms.

Brother, you do not have to do anything to me. The question was its own. I just answered you. Whatever you do, we work here everyday. If the work is done diligently, then the dial gauge is made in the eyes. Still you have any problem, then you can come with your dial gauge

I've rebuilt hundreds of cranks.. I've never done it by eye. The eye can't pick up .002 off and that would waste a crank at 10k rpm
