Please look at Dakar history and then judge. This is the real deal of the time of real men. No foot rubbing, no airco, no comfort. Pure riding on a classic is how it used to be and how it should be. Dakar turned into a red bull commercial now without any excitement. Back then everything could kill you and still those people drove it like they stole it.

Really enjoyed the video! Showing my age, my brother and I bought two brand new 79 XT500's off the showroom floor in 1980. Loved that bike! The most beautiful fuel tank of any bike IMO. Great wheely bike. It spent a lot of time on the rear wheel only until the peg went into my leg looping it. Had to have plastic surgery to fill the hole. A little while later, when I checked out the bike I found what looked like beef jerky hanging on the footpeg🤣

That’s when I started riding, in the air cooled drum brake days. First mount was a 79’ IT175F tough as nails and it dragged me across the line with no gas left in my tank but plenty left in its tank.

BRAVO..That was quite excellent my friend. I sure hope the owner of the bike was understanding about the fuel tank repairs. As my son and I were watching this I told him how I grew up navigating around Texas and the US with hand written directions and a road atlas or key map. Seeing the evolution of GPS navigation is quite amazing if you think about where we started. Thanks again for the great video.

The XT's are one of the best bikes ever made. That being said, I have also put them in situations where I was not having a good time as well.. But the good always out weighs the bad on these old bikes, and it certainly builds character! It must have been really something for you both, and the crew on this adventure. Cheers!

Just watching this at the moment its an absolute masterpiece congrats to everyone that’s been involved :) It’s interesting watching as someone who rides a lot of older Nortons on my other channel back to 1927 n daily rode a 1967 650ss Norton for a few years it’s really cool to see classics being used as they should. I own 2 XT500s and know the owner of the replica bike, I love them but I guess no one showed you how to kick start an XT500, gently kick it over until you hit the compression stroke then pull in the decompressor lever on the bars and squeeze over the compression, let go of the decomp lever and gently swing the kick start down, easy.

TT’s and XT Yamaha’s, among the very best workhorses in the motorcycle world. Honda XR’s/XL’s too, form fits function, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Great vid

You can still manage to get an XT250, and while I think they ended Japanese production but the SR400 is still being made, same engine. One of the best bikes ever produced.
