About the Project:
Join me as we create a map rich with natural beauties, distant towns and a bustling metropolis. The aim is to create an island that feels as big as a state or territory, including vast biomes, mountains, rivers and an endless coastline. Set in Australia and New Zealand (maybe an island in between), this map takes inspiration from open world video games and the way in which the game devs create such immersive environments, such as GTA 4 and 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Mafia 4 maps. To take it one step further, every thing on the map should feel unique and distinct. No city district, town or mountain should feel or look the same.

Could place a radio mast on the island so that the light house bit looks like some sort of antenna - possibly belonging to a weather station, broadcasting the forecast to all those boats.

If I may make a suggestion for one of your islands, how about something similar to Matiu / Somes Island in Wellington Harbour? It has a long and winding history, including hosting an internment camp for both world wars and a quarantine facility during the smallpox and influenza outbreaks. It was essentially New Zealand's Ellis Island. Now, it's home to a scientific reserve for the Department of Conservation. Or even just an island with a concrete structure on it, one where an old WW 2 heavy artillery emplacement would have been?

Just figured this out: You use a great strategy for creating unique textures in map editor, using a big brush on a low strength to get a slight effect. However, this creates problems when you have to do an area larger than a big circle brush size. You have to go in manually to tweak overlaps and areas with no effect from the big circles. However, you can create your own brush types by inserting a black and white image into the folder which is opened if you open the little folder icon next to the brushes in map editor. This lets you use a square brush, which tiles much easier!

Hey, great episode as always. Just a small suggestion regarding the moored 7 anchored boats. They usually all face roughly the same direction, since they swoon in the wind, not really following currents. Most currents aren't that strong directly on the the coastline. The wind however is. So, it'd be more realistic if all boats roughly face the same direction: the bow towards the wind. Cheers!

Matilda beach needs a pathway to give access to it. The quay wall intersects with the cliff leaving no way on to the beach.
@louis-hhr9479
@louis-hhr9479 2 жыл бұрын
For the boat placement the reason why these boats mostly face the same is because when they drop their anker all boats turn to face the direction of the wind if there isn’t any kind of propulsion. But if they are just floating without being ankered in they will place themselves in most cases perpendicular to the wind

You should look into the Network multi tool mod. One of it's features allows you to unlock the roads that are part of buildings like the ferry stops so you can upgrade, destroy, and rebuild them to match the style of the other roads nearby. Also works for cargo harbors. It by the maker of the intersection marking tool.

#qanda How do you plan to build your cities in the future? More vanilla stuff and zoning (like Mile Bay) or detailed, modded cities (like Oceania up until recently)? Builds like Marble Mountain are definitely something I’d love to see more of. Something about seeing the detailed work and the creativity required working with limited assets was just amazing ! You could even add other vanilla mechanics like limited money (but please limit the zoning, it just never makes areas as great as hand built. It’s longer but it’s worth it).

just something about the boats, it is partly the current but mainly in bodies of water like this the wind that is the deciding factor, so for the most realism all anchored boats should face the same direction, but lovely build!

You should place the houses on the new side of town manually imo. It just doesn’t look right when the game zones them. I think the issue is non uniform lot sizes and the fact that the game also spawns some ugly houses. But the gaps between homes are too large for australia/ New Zealand. Gaps like that are exclusively reserved for like small declining Midwestern towns with blank lots and various old home sizes, where as most suburban areas have similar wealth levels so they have similar home sizes
