for those who are after strong flavour like hot and spicy, hangzhou food is very gentle. that’s the character of this region, which has been the richest area in chinese history. as a hangzhou born now living sydney, i find comments like “food desert” rather arrogant and ignorant. those people don’t get it and they never will. it’s about freshness, original taste and less added flavourings. i am glad you enjoy this city and have a lovely time:)i am planning moving back to this lovely city soon

之所以说杭州是美食沙漠，是因为没有什么特色，基本上都是外地菜系。本地的浙菜也不及温州宁波等地。

Argument: Fujian、Guangdong's food are also very gentle、very fresh, but these palaces are food haven. When it comes to food desert for Hangzhou， it actually refers to common people food desert. U can get great good with high price in Hangzhou, which cost half in Fujian(Xiamen or Fuzhou). In Hangzhou, the precooked food are way too common, for example, the first dish u tried "Cong bao hui" is precooked, frozen, they simply heated it. Is traditional Hangzhou food bad? No, if it's cooked in a complete proper way, it's very complicated，old time, old traditional chefs, they made great Hangzhou local food. As time goes, Hangzhou local food is just being simplified，more and more precooked food being used ,that's the origin sin. Other places' chain restaurants open in Hangzhou are not in par with level other places' level, they got downgraded, I have no idea why. Is Hangzhou food improving? Yes, but it will take at least a decade to get rid of food desert title.

I highly recommend you two to come to Tibet for a visit(not just Lahsa but also other natural scenic spots),though you may need some extra preparations like a special permission and a guide.I take a self-driving road trip around the Ali region(a district of Tibet) during this national day holiday.The natural scenery is so stunning and breathtaking,and you will hardly see "people mountain people sea" in these places.I can say that most of the time,you just park your car along the road,and you can enjoy the heavenly nature exclusively without being disturbed by others.

and also xiabaoshan noodles, "shrimp fried eel". it's literally just a mix of shelled shrimps and bits of deboned eel pieces in a lovely soy sauce glaze. so good.

If you visit the immigration office in Hangzhou, it is very possible that they will grant you a longer stay permit, like for a couple of months. I think there were a British couple KZbinr who tried and succeeded. Hangzhou’s local government works in a very practical way, so it is worth trying here. Just show them the videos you have made and I’m sure they will work something out for you guys.

cong bao hui, 葱包烩。the name should provide a clue what's inside sinec the first word means green scallions. it's a thin wrapper wrapping a youtiao(chinese doughnut stick) and green scallions inside, and smushed on a hot pan so it's flattened. then add the sweet bean sauce 甜面酱. that's very much a Hangzhou traditional snack/dimsum.

Osmanthus Longjing foam, this is the common way of drinking tea for local tea farmers. It is correct to use a glass cup to brew tea, so that you can observe the tea leaves floating up and down in the tea water.

She gives me a weird vibe, is she an agent of the state, no emotion at all, so weird, she volunteered as a fan to give a tour, but no smile and doesn’t seem to enjoy the tour at all!! Body language shows she is bored, tilting her head like that???
