Once I desperately had to pee during Scheherazade. It was either sneak out to relieve myself or pee in my pants, so I chose to sneak out to relieve myself (I sat back of the first violins). When I came back, it was during the concertmasters' solo... I knocked over his stand... during his solo... in front of everyone :)

I once nodded off on stage while counting over 100 measures of rest. In andante. Conductor was going to give a cue since it's a lot of counting... But the music put me to sleep and I was already tired from earlier. Thankfully, my second chair poked me and whispered "hey, your solo's coming up!!" XD

@@kwanzatrotman6337 Well, I literally couldn't play that night and had to take it to my luthier to make sure the sound post didn't shift because of how the bridge snapped and it was horrible weather for any wood instruments. I couldn't play for a few days and was relieved to get it back. I was playing with a band that thought it would be nominal for a violin to join. Had been with them since I was a teen and stayed with them well until my young adult years and they broke up due to changing interests. When this happened, I think I was around 17 years old.

This one still haunts me: For my senior culminating project in high school, I arranged several pieces for our concert band, and acted as the teacher and concert conductor for the pieces. The theme for the concert they were being played in was a tribute to Michael Jackson. On the night of the concert, we were starting with “We are the World”. The band thought it would be a nice touch to project a slideshow of Michael Jackson images on the stage wall behind the band as we played. I had told my friend who was running the projector that I would give him a signal when I was done talking to the audience and we were going to start the piece. Unfortunately, being as nervous as I was, I forgot to give him the signal, and turned to the band to prepare them to start playing. After I had lifted my baton, and the band was at attention, it dawned on me that I forgot to give the signal, and so I turned around to my friend real quick and signaled him to start the slideshow. Well, the band thought I forgot to say something to the audience and went back into rest position to wait for me to finish. I was already flustered, and when I turned back to the band, rather than making sure they were still ready, I immediately started conducting my upbeat. Let’s just say every instrument that was supposed to come in together for the intro, staggered in about two beats apart from each other in a panic, and were all in different tempos. After about 2 bars, I had to signal to stop. I apologized to the audience for my mistake and started again. Second time it went fine, but I remember that story any time I conduct.

I finally got around to watching this. Here’s my embarrassing story: during an orchestra rehearsal in conservatory, the conductor (a notoriously harsh, critical woman who was feared by all) stopped the rehearsal abruptly, pointed straight at me, and yelled, “you’re not doing the right bowing. Get it right!” We start playing again, I apparently played the wrong bowing again, and she stops the orchestra AGAIN and says, “we’re not going on until you play this bowing correctly”. At this point I blacked out from embarrassment, and don’t remember what happened next... I must have finally played the bowing correctly, but I was scarred for life. Thanks, Prof Reischl (yeah I’m calling you out) for giving me major ptsd. Ugh.

That moment when you open your mouth before you take in a deep breath to calm your sh*t, 😂🤣🤣 Omg, so relatable. Back then I could imagine myself doing that cause of how late my parents dropped me off for any performance or rehearsal. I sang and played clarinet back then. Sooo for people who think this doesn't make sense, remember that there are actually many vocalists that play instruments too! I haven't touched an instrument in ages, but thanks to TwoSet, it's only a matter of time before I pick up something again, whether it's the clarinet, violin, or something exotic or unusual like harp or guzheng, mainly cause those instruments have a ton of strings, and they're also very eye catching without even touching them!

I once was late to an orchestra concert and I didn't know the layout of the concert hall, because I was late, and I straight-up just walked through the audience to the stage, violin in hand and was wearing a different tie from everybody else (everyone was wearing a black bow tie and I was wearing a red regular tie). Ik it’s long but read until the end, it’s good. Story time- this was my first year playing violin and I was still In the beginners orchestra at my school. Very early in the school year when we were still learning to read treble clef, I broke my violin. I was practicing one night and set it down on my bed to use the bathroom. When I came back I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing and sat down on my bed. All I heard was a crunch and the E string snap. I got up and saw that THE WHOLE NECK HAD BROKEN OFF. The only thing keeping it from falling was the stings. The next day I showed up to school and I told my orchestra director what happened and she just laughed it off and said I could borrow a school violin until mine got fixed. I tried my best to keep this on the down low, and did a pretty good job! Then, at the very end of the year, our last concert came. Many orchestras were playing that night, and there was an intermission right before my orchestra was going to play. So we went to put or instruments on stage, where they would stay through out the intermission. The director told us to put or violins on our chairs. Then she said “now make sure when you come back, you don’t do what, Skye? (I’m Skye) Me- “sit on your violin?” Her- “yes, because what happens when you sit on your violin?” Me- “it’ll will break in half😞” For the next 3 years I was known as Snapper Booty. Edit: also the whole audience was still in the auditorium dead silent, so there were a good 200 people who knew about it

oof big embarrassing story: i know most people here are in orchestra. I was in orchestra as well (cello), but I was also in band. My most embarrassing story happened to be during marching band, it's bad, like so bad, so strap in for a ride. As a backstory, I play the saxophone and I was one of the top saxophonists in the band, however due to an issue the school was having, I had to march that season with a trashy instrument that tended to literally fall apart while marching (since i play one of the uncommon saxophones, the school lends one to us so we don't have to buy it ourselves). Marching band is all about how clean and straight the shapes the band makes on field, anyone who is outside or makes the shape blurry is deducted points. Story time: my band was in a NATIONAL competition (Bands of America), we were marching and everything is going great. Until we get to the most intense and iconic part of the show. I'm marching, when suddenly the top part my instrument falls onto the floor as I was running into the new shape (called a set). We're in a hold, in which you are not supposed to move, at all, ever, no matter what, but the top half of my instrument is on the floor, yards away from where i was standing. since my instrument is owned by the school, i couldn't just leave it on the floor to get destroyed and potentially be a danger to other marchers to trip on, so i go and pick it up and quickly reattach it. EVERY ONE STARED AT ME. If i had left it on the floor, we would have had more points deducted compared to the action i took. You can see in the video that was streamed nationally, a tiny person move very far away during what clearly is supposed to be a holding triangle shape. to make it worse, my fellow band members did not understand what i did and the entire band made fun of me until i explained what happened. also as i made my way back into the spot i had to be in, the band started to move again and someone ran into me and busted my lip open. now i was playing on with a broken instrument, with a badly bleeding lip, on national streaming, with the band mad at me. the good news is that we still passed to finals. but ive never seen so many people stare at me in disgust for something that was not entirely my fault and it was soo embarrassing

K Lu hi I know I’m six months late but I am notorious for having things go miserably wrong for me during concerts. I have had my music blow shut during the most difficult part of my SOLO. My favorite is one time I dropped my bow on stage while everyone was playing pizzicato so it echoed. It also bounced away from me so I had to get out of my seat to get it. It wouldn’t have been quite so bad if I weren’t first violin first chair so I was centerstage and all eyes were on me. I remember my very first piano recital in middle school. I got to the auditorium dressed up in my black and white dress ready to play. My teacher finishes the introduction to the recital and starts calling people up to play. Immediately I find out that I’m the VERY first person up. 😥 I was thinking, “Well, this is a surprise. No big deal. I practiced.” I get up on stage and it’s dead quiet. So I begin my piece, but maybe 2 bars into the piece...I flat out stop because I forgot my piece in that instant. It took me maybe 10-20 seconds to actually remember my piece. I finished the piece and got off stage. Everyone still said I did very well. 😂 That recital still haunts me to this day (it’s been 11 years).

One time I was in the choir and we were singing Router's "All Things Bright and Beautiful". The thing about that song is that the 1st voice (basically the sopranos but it was a kid's choir) come in first and then the 2nd voice repeats and then they all sing together. The embarrassing part is that I was basically the pillar of the 2nd voice and I had forgotten that my voice's non-unissono part existed, so I just came in at full volume with the wrong text for HALF A PAGE and then, noticing the 1sr voice wasn't singing and decided to shut the heck up abruptly. Also, a few years later, I was in Handel's "Messiah" and there's a movement called "O Thou that Tellest Good Tiding to Zion" which has this weird thing where the sopranos do a little thingy with the word "arise" and then the word "behold". The tricky part is that they do "arise" two times, then "behold" one time (followed by the phrase "the glory of the lord is risen upon thee") and then "behold" again but two times. Guess who was the idiot soprano who did a second "behold" on top of "the glory of the lord is risen upon thee" at full volume?

In high school choir we sang Vivdil’s Gloria. I believe it was after we finished singing Domini Fili Unigentite the choir director said he didn’t like the way we sang it so he was going to have us sing it again. In university chorus we sang the Huron Carol as part of our Christmas concert. We sang the beginning together and for “before their light the start grew dim and wandering hunters heard the hymn” the tenors, basses and baritones sang that while the first/second sopranos and altos vocalized. I started to sing it and a fellow first soprano had to nudge me and say “We don’t sing that part!”

I feel you on that movement in the Messiah. I've done the exact same thing. 🤝😭 Also....I totally didn't jump into the air (full on jump, not kidding) in the Amen chorus when there's the really quiet violin line and then everyone (including timpani) comes in tutti. That. Was terrifying.

speaking of ballets... i'm an ex dancer. and in a mid-season showcase like recital, (my first year on the school's competitive team actually) i had a few numbers, in a long show. so i finish one. go back stage, start changing. the change room's empty, the speaker playing live audio from the stage... and i had some time. and me, i've always lived by the philosophy "If you have time, use it". had suspenders, had a tie, had to safety pin said suspenders/tie, had to throw on tap shoes... and suddenly i hear my next number on the speakers. my panicked mind said, *whelp. guess i'm not going on for this number*. rather than get my shit together and sprint on mid number. my brain worked out that that'd have the least impact on the audience's viewing experience... which if i was a normal core dancer, that would probably only really have been a big problem for me, when next i saw my teacher. EXCEPT for the fact that i'm a dude, in a school where dudes are a rare commodity, and so i had partner work, and a partner on stage with no dude to lift her.... my teacher let me off lightly for that. walked in the next week, teach puts on the tape, starts talking to the group about things that could've been better, he looks at me, and goes "i don't even want to know."

I was in a piano recital and two of my friends were playing in it as well. As my first friend went up to play, they left their music behind on purpose because they had it memorized. But not knowing that fact, my second friend got up, while friend 1 was in the middle of a piece, and tried to put the music on the bench next to them. Fortunately, friend 1 kept going. But friend 2 was confused so they tried to put the music on the piano and open it to the right page. Friend 1 actually stopped playing one hand to shoo friend 2 away. My teacher didn’t know what to do, and neither did I since neither of us could stop friend 2. It was pretty funny, even though it didn’t happen to me. My poor friends tho we’re both really embarrassed. I also played a whole recital on a keyboard that had a nonfunctioning pedal. My teacher told me to just keep going when I found her in the audience. They changed the pedal after I was done playing. That was enjoyable. When we played 1812 at state festival, the last page fell off my music stand so I had to play it from memory. (I played upright bass that time so I didn’t have a stand partner to look off of). Thankfully I didn’t mess up. At my most recent piano recital, my dress got caught under the bench. It was fine while I was playing, but after I stood up to bow, I realized it was caught and had to turn around to lift up the extremely heavy (for some reason) bench and I could hardly lift it. The audience was confused and thought I was bowing again, and they weren’t sure whether or not to keep clapping. At the same recital, I played a duet with someone but they didn’t set up two benches. After bowing, my duet partner did the same thing as Brett, smiled politely, held up a finger, and walked off stage. She couldn’t find an extra bench so in the end, she brought out a green chair. In my school orchestra concert, they decided to have me play piano as filler between a set change the day before. Because I wasn’t in the program, the light crew thought I was a recording and I started playing in the dark, thinking they would spot me. They didn’t. I made it halfway though the piece before my hands lost their place because I was essentially playing blindfolded, and I had to yell up to the booth to have them turn on the lights. The whole audience bust out laughing and then began to applaud me, but I was so flustered I could hardly continue from where I left off, but I did finish the piece. There are plenty more. But I think my pride as a musician has already been wounded enough for the entertainment of the comments section.

Okay I actually didn't think I had any stories but I DO--- I was playing at a student recital once, and I was playing La Folia by A. Corelli, which isn't the easiest piece (if you don't know it, look it up--the time sigs are constantly switching, it's a hassle to play). And I had a piano accompaniment playing with me. And so I'm tuning and all when suddenly the pianist comes over and goes "I don't have your sheet music with me." I started like FREAKING OUT and I'm searching in my music bag for spare sheet music. Apparently the heavens were in my favor, because I had recently had an audition and still had that sheet music with me. (Yes, the music for piano even though I play violin. Don't ask why--I don't know.) so I gave them what I *thought* was the piano accompaniment and sat down, breathing a sigh of relief. Cut to near the end of the performance, it's my turn. I go up, start playing. I get to the third-to-last section with the double stops (the fast one, dadedadedadedodedodedode) and I'm playing--and the pianist. Stops. And I'm PANICKING. I'm playing and my tempo is going all over the place and I'm just sending frantic glances towards them out of the corner of my eye and my teacher is making hand motions like "just keep going!" So, still freaking out, I did. I finished the piece, everyone applauded really loudly, and I went back to my seat with what I am positive was a BRIGHT RED face. After the recital my teacher comes up to me and is like "do you know what happened?" Apparently, it WASNT THE FULL PIANO SHEET MUSIC. It was only like two pages. So for a half page this pianist improv-Ed before just giving up and sitting back. Thank goodness it was on the double stop part, so at least it sounded alright. And yet, when you watch a playback of me doing it, you'd never know anything was wrong. (Which utterly astounds me, because I was fReAkInG oUt, MaN) So yeah, that's MY embarrassing violin story... EDIT: Oh my god why is this one of the upper comments help my embarrassment- But I hope this helped you guys feel less bad about whatever happened to you! ^^'

When I played in my first piano competition, I was really nervous. I sat down at the piano, and started to play my piece fairly well, with few mistakes. But then, it got to the second part of the recapitulation, and I panicked and forgot the part. I ended up skipping that part and played the rest of the movement and the one after that shaking. Also, I somehow got a bronze medal when I skipped like four measures.

I remember I was a soloist. I nailed it in rehearsals, the conductor was so proud of me he was taken aback at how good I was. When it came time to perform, the damn conductor sped up my solo part by like 15 bpm! (It was supposed to be a very slow piece.) I was so shocked at how fast the tempo was, that I had to recalculate the math in my head, that I came in a whole beat late which by the end of my solo, I was a whole bar behind. Oh my god I was so embarrassed and he HATED me ever since. What’s worse, NOBODY in the audience thought I messed up and they all were amazed at what they heard. They absolutely LOVED it! They were moved and felt that everything was played perfectly and went well with the music. And I agreed it sounded better with me behind lmao. Even my band mates thought it sounded even better than rehearsal. I’m like how!? But I knew, the conductor knew and he was so mad everyone loved the performance like this. Before he left, he told me, make sure you look up. His face was red and he drove off. So embarrassing 🤣
