Did I miss a hydraulic pit somewhere? Something I thought of while you were talking about the square nails. Back some years square nails weren't cheap. I've heard stories about folks back then burning their cabin down to recover the square nails for the next hut. If you were finding square nails, it's possible there were some structures nearby, a great place to detect maybe! Maybe the drone could spot the outlines of building foundations. Pretty country !

I’m trying to understand hydraulic pits. Is this just the rubble washed from the hill? The rocks are still there but wasn’t all the gold somehow captured? Wasn’t that the point of hydraulic mining?
@TwoToes11 ай бұрын
The hydraulic pits were old rivers, they would use water to break up the old river gravels and run them threw long sluice boxes. The way they recovered the gold was very crude and they lost percentage of it, some small areas they just missed.

I grew up in California but I’m stuck in Michigan until my teenagers graduate in 2020 and then I’m moving back to California. I use to prospect a lot up and down Hwy 49, Sutter Creek, Grass Valley, Placerville and all around there. I’ll be living in Fresno/Clovis because that’s where all my family is but it’s fine I always made the drive north to those areas. Can you tell me where abouts you are? I was also talking with Jerry from California Mother Lode Prospectors and I was going to work on getting some claims when I move back. I hope I can connect with you and swap stories😊 in the meantime I’ll keep watching your videos👍👍

Worth watching just for your "Timing" comment & drone footage. Given Atomic similarity Ive wondered if lightning strikes could convert Mercury to Gold. I had a very unusual experience recently when a woman the exact same age as me *whom I believe I might be related to, died when struck by lightning when hiking. At the (exact?) same time as she died, I received a bizarre, Lifetime unprecedented, electric shock went through the centre of my right palm. Since then, I've seen flashes of light in a room with no lightbulb. Isobel Bytautus who looked extremely like a young version of my GrandAunt may have been a Great Grandchild of one of the 4 sisters. It was unusual because it came out of nowhere & went through my palm as it I'd leaned on a live pin/post, rather than being static charge going thru my fingers. "Next of kin have been informed"; I wondered if I had been, in the most astonishing way. Glad you got your drone back. How high/far can it go??
@TwoToes5 жыл бұрын
You can only 400 feet above you, it will stop when you get to that elevation. They have built that in because it's the law. You can travel out over 4 miles, but I'm to chicken to let it get out of sight.

Great video, as always. Ever do any treasure hunting in Sonoma or Mendocino counties? I've only found very small amounts of gold in the rivers out here, but there are lots of old logging camps and such to metal detect.
@TwoToes5 жыл бұрын
I worked in the woods right after I got out of high school, pulling chokers. I have done my fair share of bottle digging in the old logging camps. I have not done any prospecting on that side of the valley, most all the gold is very fine and there is not much of it.

I have learned so much from you its really incredible, but the comment at the start about not saying where you are.. I think its so important to remind everyone that nearly every inch of gold country in California is either claimed by someone.. meaning you need permission to prospect.. its a crime to claim jump.. or on Private land.. or state park, national park or a protected wilderness area. Do your research don't just go anywhere you think you may find gold. Ive been prospecting in California for 30 years and have had guns pointed at me and rangers with warnings of big tickets, not to mention dope growers and crazy's camped out on there claims. I love prospecting and have found some rich areas that were not claimed and legal but its rare. Just thinking that needs to be out there....
