My husband introduced me to this album, I absolutely love it. Unfortunately he passed away in 2020 from cancer aged 47. I had this song played at his funeral. Life will be forever Autumn without you Lee 💔

I am so sorry for your loss, especially as he was so young. I am a 51 year old UK male and I was lucky enough to experience this album when it came out in the laye 70's as a kid. I know it so well, most of the words too. My dad had a high end hifi and headphone setup back then, so I had an amazing experience which stays with me today.

Jeff Wayne and Justin Hayward ex Moody Blues both brilliant at atmosphere! "Nights in White Satin, Never Reaching the End, Music I Have Written, Never Meaning to Send". Scared to Declare Love. Forever Autumn, Love Declared BUT Never Lost. IF you carry the LOVE Had & Refuse to Lose and the Love You Never Declared But Keep, You have Lost BUT Not Lost. The MEMORY IS CHERISHED FOREVER.

One of my most treasured posessions is this album mounted in a picture frame on the wall behind me. This was the story of my youth and why I came to love science fiction. That led to a lifelong love of technology, then a career, a wife and children. Now in my late 50's I look back at what this album gave me, while I look at the exact album that I played in my youth, owned and played frequently by my parents, now mounted on the wall behind me. For my parerents, "because you're not here".

To all the heartbroken; We all voluntarily incarnated here on earth, to experience a disconnect, a godless life learning experience... perhaps as a necessary contrast from our previous heavenly existence! Perhaps try transpose the feeling of this song of; the (temporary) loss we feel here on earth, to; the forgotten belonging/Love/ Homeliness of our previous Home in heaven. Even if you are Atheist, Look-up NDE experiences & learn what they see beyond the "veil' learn again where we Came from/ & are going back to!, you will see through a new lens!.

An odd thing to say, but this album is the best adaptation of the novel, everything about it is terrifying in the right ways. The music is amazing throughout, but this track however, is fucking beautiful. A favourite of mine. Also the transition at 4:10 is... just... gah... perfection

I think of my beautiful cat Surely (Pronounced like Shirley) who was only 2 when she died. We got her a week after my husband and I married in October of '92 and almost exactly 2 years later she went missing and was found dead a week later. My heart was shattered. She loved playing in the leaves and being out doors,, exploring and all. It's been several years and I still miss my little Surely Bo Birley.

Well, I'd dispute that, but I know where you're coming from! Have you heard 'Like a stone'? The lead singer, Chris Cornell, committed suicide at the age of 39! Then there's 'while my guitar gently weeps' by George Harrison. So many great songs from that era! Where's all the genius talent gone?

Was nine years old when I discovered this album. The 1970s was a great decade for music. Brings back memories on 1978/79. A triple whammy Star wars, Close Encounters of the third kind. And Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds.

I hadn't heard this song since 1980 when my Dad used to play it over and over after my Mom committed suicide. He used to scare me and my sister with the 'machines from Mars' and only seeing the cover artwork now brings back shivers to my spine. It's funny that after all these years, I can still sing along the lyrics, though only now I understand the words 'cause you're not here'. At that time, aged 5, when hearing this song I could only feel an intense loneliness, which has taken me decades to get rid off. My Dad is 77 now, he had a stroke last year but is still there for me, just like he always was throughout all the tough times. I would like to listen this song together with him and cry out all those tears I could not cry when I was too young to understand what had happened.

Im with you on this. I was a similar age [8yrs!]. It was the first storybook cassette I listened to. Yes, it was a concept album, but to an 8yr old it was a story with music. I was mesmerised. I listened to it with one of my brothers and we were both silent in his bedroom for the whole time. One of the best moments of my childhood memory.
