Thank you a lot for providing these videos, this was my favourite pastime while I was in Japan - to cycle and visit places. Hopefully in the future it opens up properly and I can start working there. I've never seen Vietnam in this kind of format, more raw and in less touristy areas, so it will be a nice thing to see - good luck with your move.

Oww... @31:19 you guys ride past the entrance to one of my absolute favourite temple/gardens -in Japan- , Tenryu-ji (aka 90% of my desktop screen backgrounds...) 🙏 On those bike(y)-paths full of obstacles and pedestrians it's very hard for your riding partner to see what's coming up ahead, hand signals make it a lot easier (hence @19:36... 😊)

I notice Thuong-chan shifted the right shifter(Internal gear hub) while pedalling at the 21:47 mark. It's recommended to pause pedalling momentarily when shifting on the right(Sturmey Archer SRF3), while for the external 2 cogs(Left shifter), continue pedalling when shifting. Great video. Looking forward to visiting Japan again either as a tourist or on a work trip.

The bamboo forest looked so strange and unfamiliar compared to what I am used to in England , more like a giant palissade than a wood ! This was a very varied, busy ride, which must have taken a lot of concentration to keep going through the many potential obstacles on your way.

one thing that i always noticed about japan when watching your cycling videos, no matter how small the road maintainance or whatever construction, no matter if it's in the big cities or countryside, they always have enough manpower there to warn people and control the traffic, sometimes in my country they just put up a warning sign or a safety dummy.

hello! I’m a new subscriber from Singapore and can I just say it’s crazy that you guys do not need a bell on your bike. 😂 I’ve just only learnt about the cycling etiquette in Japan through your videos and while I know you have mentioned that the general rule is that pedestrians have the right of way, the fact that they walk in straight lines, do not suddenly turn or stop really helps us cyclists as well. In Singapore, if you do not have a bell, I can foresee many accidents or yelling from pedestrians (even though they are the ones who are not walking properly). While we are allowed to cycle on the pavement, roads and share the park connectors with others, we are still getting so much shit everyday from everyone. I really hope one day Singapore can be as bicycle friendly as Japan!

The Japanese seem to have the road systems sussed out well. Cycling on UK sidewalks/pavements can get attention from the cops. Cyclepaths in some cities has improved a lot and many towns, but some areas are really bad for cyling with dangerous drivers, some even aim to hurt cyclists. Do Japanese cyclists hail to each? it's mixed here, some don't most do though. We don't have Jaywalking but you take your life in your hands if you mess with traffic. What are they growing there? Are they just mountains or volcanoes too? Those little bikes are handy, i wouldn't be able to bring my tourer there, it's too big and with a trailer too. No helmets? One things for sure, the state of those roads are like ours.

This was one of the best ”cultural” cycling videos! So much happening and different kind of things to note; urban, nature, cultural, people… nice! Highlighting three. ”Face diapers” everyone! Even You had while cycling.. what an Earth is this!? Crazy! Just crazy… then there were those four workers at around 27 minutes cutting grass; two holding plastic covers because possible flying little stones while two doing job and helmets on.. safety first, but this is just crazy safety.. and also american culture with You noting ”lots of cyclists” when there has been just a couple. So much to see in this video! Man pulled carriages, bowing wellcome worker at park entry, people clothing, bad shape roads and bridge (usually all in Japan are in tip top shape!), housing (with poor conditions), traffic, etc……. Like said; great cultural video! Thanks!!

Glad you enjoyed the video! Japan is one of the safest countries in the world and it may be overkill or annoying at times, but the results don't lie. - Japan covid19 deaths per million: 145 vs 2,300 in the USA (16x more likely to die in USA) - almost 0 accidents on the high speed bullet train Also, we don't mind the masks. They are normal in Asia and are actually more comfortable to ride with during cooler weather since they warm up the cooler air and block bugs / some pollution 😅

I can't wait. Every one of these bike rides in Japan gave me a headache. Narrow, choppy lanes and endless poles, curbs, fences. Ugggg. Not much chance to enjoy scenery or nice yards. I have ZERO inclination to go there. Maybe it's just because the semi rural areas are like this. Imagine riding that in the dark, NOT. I rode up 3/4 of Vietnam and 1000 miles in SW China. I did ride every mile from HoiAn to DaFang, 100 miles west of GuiYang. I absolutely liked all of it. I never used 20 words in either language. LOL.

I rode from Kyoto station to Arashiyama through through some busy commercial and residential areas last time I visited. Should've taken this route instead! I found cycling in Kyoto paradoxically safer and risky at the same time. There are bike paths and lots of people (elderly, moms, students) riding for transportation. But the paths can be narrow or people just ride on the sidewalk, so you need to maneuver around lots of pedestrians and other cyclists.
