@@marias3681 Yes, Sam Mangakāhia is a Māori artist who came to Hawaiʻi to study at BYU-Hawaiʻi on the North Shore of Oʻahu and he started his own business, Hāmiora Art (which is the Māori transliteration of his name "Samuel.") He says he believes that people can connect to culture through art and innovation, and thatʻs why he wanted to design a guitar especially for Iam to tell his story and be a part of him when he plays it.

The love and respect that Iam Tongi showed from the first audition say's a lot about his upbringing, love for his family, culture and most important being true to himself. Iam knows where he came from and all he want's is to make his family proud. I watched his homecoming and to see all the love shared by the thousands especially the younger kids who came to see their "American IDOL". Yes sometimes we forget the word "Idol" in "American Idol. I'd just like to share another example of the community Iam comes from. The senior class of Kahuku High School does not just sing the usual class song at commencement. In addition to their nationally ranked football team (most of the players go on to play in college and quite a few have made it to the NFL), Kahuku High School is famous for their creative and often outrageous performance by the senior class at their graduation ceremony, which once again expresses the pride, spirit, unity, and musical talents of the predominantly Polynesian community on the North Shore of O'ahu. That guitar was designed by a Polynesian artist and was presented to him during his American Idol visit to Alaska. It contains symbols of his and other surrounding cultures, his lineage, as well as Rodney’s name placed in a strategic spot.
