I love his thoughts on the mini-driver being the max head size for Tour pros. That needs to happen before they roll back the ball
@andrewcopeland1517Ай бұрын
My thoughts too. Why aren’t they looking at the equipment companies that come out with something new every year vs changing the whole ball industry
@pjdaugherty78Ай бұрын
That was absolutely the best! I don't think I've ever heard another elite pro discuss their equipment like that - I am sure that there are plenty of examples to counter that - but so many pros actually don't understand the physics and they just say "it feels good/right", but Mr. Furyk has a keen awareness of the "why". Great stuff!

Best video I’ve seen in a long time!👍🏻 Seems like most of the younger guys on Tour know next to nothing about their equipment and simply count on their club reps to give them what is “best”.

That uw wood is so good, one thing that goes underrated on it is that sole. It cuts through rough like butter.
@jjoddo4530Ай бұрын
Agreed. Mine is a rocket ship. Almost goes too far!! Sits perfectly behind the ball too
@masaguchi46Ай бұрын
What's the difference between a UW and a hybrid? Is it just a oversized hybrid?
@PaulKlein-n8kАй бұрын
Well there’s a number of things. Shape, size, face material, sole design, flight characteristics, std length. Personally never been a fan of Callaway’s hybrid shape but their woods are fantastic.

I was watching Jim on the range at The Travelers Championship the evening before he shot his 58. He was so frustrated with his game. He was on the phone with his dad, and kicking balls all over the place. Pretty funny watching that, and the score he shot on Sunday. Crazy game! ⛳️🏌🏽♂️

Two comments: 1.) I play the same Callaway AI Smoke driver, Callaway 19* UW and Exotics 722 Ti Utility iron as Jim (softer flex, but same clubs and lofts); and 2.) Kim Braly is a shaft genius. I worked for and with him in the tour equipment trailers for several years and learned a lot from him (and a side benefit is that I got inside the ropes at some tour events and a few majors). I also got to test some prototype shafts from KBS and still have KBS Tour Graphite Iron shafts in many of my irons and wedges.

I was lucky enough to find a mint set of 18 X Forged irons on eBay. Really couldn’t afford them when they came out and they even have the shaft I wanted. Standard number of grooves which is fine. Have only had a chance to hit them once on the range and once in a simulator. In my opinion they’re just as good as anything I’d buy today.

@bobpegram8042Ай бұрын
WHAT IS THE SHAFT IN THE DRIVER???!!! You NEVER said. My iron heads are the pre-cursor to the iron heads in this video. Jim shot a 59 with the ones in this video and a 58 with the model I have: RAZR X Forged (cavity back). I bought them from Callaway pre-owned. They had Project X shafts. I knew I was going to pull the shafts and install graphite so I bought the set with the shafts I knew I could re-sell for the most ($190). All the steel shafted ones were the same price from Callaway. I wonder if they were his. I doubt it. There were a number of sets for sale on the site at the time (early 2019). I didn't know Jim had used that model to shoot 58 until later. 🙂

I also hate these enormous head drivers, even though I currently have one (Callaway Epic Max). I grew up in the 80s Jr golf scene playing 150cc persimmon drivers, then 190cc stainless steel in the 90s. You couldn’t cheat distance. If you didn’t hit it "on the screws" it'd cost you 20-30 yards. Im all for more distance and forgiveness, but these head sizes at 460cc is too much.
