Went for a Mizuno fitting with my Pro, who is also a Master Fitter. He "didn't need" the Optimizer to select my proper shaft. I struggled for 30 minutes with three different heads to hit solid shots. Then I insisted on employing the optimizer, which suggested three shafts the Pro thought would never work for me. A month later, I have a new set of 919s with a shaft suggested by the optimizer and new Pro!

Yeah, you can't fight cold hard data against thousands of hours of engineering going into it. Years of experience from an equipment viewpoint. That pro fitter should have embraced that data. Not ignore it.

I work at a Golf Galaxy and love this new shaft optimizer. I've been advocating for awhile that flight is king over the lie board and it's funny how many customers think I'm just inexperienced. I try to show them with a magnetic stick on the face that face angle can override lie angle but this new shaft optimizer seems to let them trust me a little more based on the recommendations it's been giving.

I have listened to Chris on a couple of podcasts before this video. He really knows his stuff and explains the technical aspects of golf equipment in a very user friendly way. Great Mizuno ambassador. Glad to see TXG bring in other experts from the industry. Clearly this technology will not replace a fitter if Ian's experience but be one more tool to get a better fit for their client. For those of us without someone of Ian's ability this tool will give us a great head start.

Great video.. any video where Chris appears is worth a watch.. so much good info. I was fitted on the previous optimiser and will be interested to re-test on this one. I love that Mizuno have spent their limited budget developing and improving this tool to really benefit the industry where other manufacturers with much bigger budgets could have done it but instead decided to throw ridiculous amounts of money at endorsing pros and over the top marketing campaigns. There is lot of respect for Mizuno in the market right now and rightfully so. Keep up the good work.

Just had an experience with this tool with some pretty interesting results. I was recently fitted for the JPX 921 forged. Spent days trying new shafts just on feel and recommendations from the pro alone. I narrowed my choice down to 3 shafts that best fit me based on the simulator results. I must have tried over 25 shafts over 3 days and many hours. On the last day, the pro brought in the optimizer tool and I took my 3 swings. The tool recommended 2 of the 3 shafts I honed in on myself and the 3rd was a shaft I hit poorly. The back up recommendations the optimizer chose did poorly in my tests. Too nail down 2 of 3 is pretty damn good which would help support the point that this is another tool in the tool box and along with a good fitting can help someone narrow their focus pretty well I was impressed.

Thanks, guys, for bringing Chris into TXG and into the conversation regarding fitting. I know you're talking about fitters needing to be better educated but I think, conversely, that the average golfer needs to be as knowledgeable as possible to be able to "help" his fitter. Knowing the terms that can be so easily thrown around and even being able to suggest something else can be enormously beneficial during a fitting or while troubleshooting after the fact. Great video! Go Matty! Keep pounding 'em!

I have used the Mizuno shaft optimizer 3d from the fitting side of things, and let me tell you, it is amazing.... I got my irons fitted with the old Mizuno optimizer several years ago. I just went through a soup to nuts fitting with TXG (highly recommend) and most of the changes were done on my driver and fairway woods. I have gained 25-30 yards on my drives and the dispersion is way down. However, it’s worth mentioning that I only had to tweaked my iron lie angles as they still are performing well. In addition, txg tweaked my putter angles and I’m way more accurate now (and I am no longer leaving it short). Worth every penny - thanks gents for all that you do!

It called my lie angle adjustment (up 2°) perfectly, and the #2 shaft ended up being a godsend. Never was able to really feel like I could load up the shaft with any power, but now it's screaming off the face. tl;dr - Trust this bad boy.

Had 3 Miz DNA tests over 5 years with the recent one being in January 2019. I experienced the first two with a 'lazy fitter' or quick-purchase guys, then by a knowledgeable fitter in the recent fitting. Hard to convince them all that it's a starting point test, and not an absolute test result. Chris confirms this, Ian supports the refining fitting method, Matt cleverly views everything from the golfer perspective by testing a different swing style, building further trust in the readings. Interesting the shaft angle and path were highlighted as almost constant. BTW interesting thought that lie angles may flatten now! Good work guys, hope other fitters in the world see this.

I went to Golf Town today because of this video and went through the fitting - I was the first to do it and helped them along after seeing this video. My 85mph swing was Tempo 5, Toe Down 4.25, Kick 2.5 and Release 2.0 - recommended shaft was Dynamic Gold S300 120, Project X 5.5, Project X LZ 5.5 and Flat -0.5 - which is basically spot on. I tried that shaft it felt very good. The head was in Standard Lie and was Drawing about 5 to 10 yards - so I went -1 Flat which should keep it at a 5 yard Draw. It recommended Gap to 6 iron - I added the 5 iron as I like that as my longest iron. I went with the new Hot Metal Pros - the 7 iron @ 30 degrees carries 175 at 5000 spin with a 17.5 launch. I will be coming by for a gapping session when the new clubs arrive. These are a replacement for my stolen Callaway Apex CF-16s with Regular F3 Recoils - the feel and the sound is so much better. Awesome video & congrats to Mizuno for making this fitting tool - it provided a good fit based on everything I know about my swing and preferences. See you guys soon Paul

Brilliant video guys. I used the 3D Optimizer when I was fit for my JPX Forged 919 in June 2019. Shaft selection through the tool was great, it was pretty much spot on for the type of shafts I would normally lean towards (stiff, on the lighter side). Ended up going with the DG 105 S300. My ball flight was typically low (even in a high launching XP95 shaft). I was playing M2 Tour Irons, which are stronger lofted. A combo between going forged, weaker lofts, different head design (as you mentioned) and changing shafts has totally changed my strike and ball flight, plus helped the gapping and average distances become more consistent. Well done Mizuno. Hats off to you Chris, Ian and Matt.

Really great and informative video guys. I got fitted 6 months ago and actually asked to use the optimizer (old version) as the first port of call. Having played S300's for 10 years I thought that would be choice 1, it wasn't in the top 3 and I now have Nippon Pro Modus that play and feel 100% better. It made my iron fit so much easier and gave me more confidence that I had the perfect fit. ;-)

My first fitting was with the first Mizuno System. It was badly off, it put me in KBS 105 gram shafts on my MP63 heads. I then went for a second fitting that was more in depth. The second fitting recommended the Nippon 950GH 95 gram shaft instead, which I instantly proffered. So Glad to see they have made this change. That was 5 years ago now, can't wait to come and get my new bag done.

In the first fitting I ended up with Modus 105 R with 2*U, and in the second the recommendation was DG 105 S with 0,5*U. My WITB is now; ST190 driver, MP18 combo (4-5 Fli-Hi, 6-7 SC, 8-P MB, S18 50-7 55-13 60-10 all 0,5*F.

Great video, guys. I was fitted for a set of JPX 919 Forged Irons this week (6 through Gap Wedge bent 1* strong) and the Hot Metal Pro 4 & 5 irons......all at 0.5* flat. I was fortunate enough to be able to utilize the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer 3D. I have been extremely frustrated with my current irons (they’re not Mizuno, by the way) and shaft, and after seeing the results of my 3 swings on the Optimizer, I now understand why. I’ve been playing a 95g graphite shaft with the wrong profile and my fitter showed me the results indicating I needed to move back to a 110g steel shaft. So he dialed my first two shaft recommendations into the Mizuno 919 Forged head, and the results were so much better than what I’ve been experiencing. The last Mizuno irons I played were the JPX 825 Pros when they first came out, and I’ve missed them since I moved on to a couple of other sets. So thanks Mizuno for this great tool and for building such great clubs, and thanks Ian & Matt as always for such outstanding videos. You guys are the best.

Have used the previous version. Played with mizuno MP4 few years back. When the jpx 900 tour models came out was going to go for them. Went to my local mizuno dealer who had the shaft optimizer there. Played around with it. And the results came back with the exact same clubs, shafts lie angles and everything I was playing. The fitter said in all the years he had been fitting he has never seen that before😂 but was impressed by it. And this was with real ball hitting off turf/grass outside hitting. I prefer fitting that way as I have a very step angle of attack so don't hitting of mats to. much. Great video again love these

Got fit on new optimizer last week. Recommended shafts were spot on. Recommended lie angle was 1.5 degree flatter than I’ve been fit for previously on a lie board. I’ve always felt my irons were to upright and I feel the optimizer confirmed this and I ordered based on its recommended lie angle. Excited to get my jpx 919s out on the course.

Used this in my fitting a couple of months ago. Ended up ignoring the lie angle recommendation as the 1.5* up it suggested is the result of a swing flaw not anthropometrics but it was dead on for the shaft options it suggested for me to try. Resulted in a ball flight that is neutral and gets up quick before just boring flat forward through the air. Great piece of kit Mizuno.

The previous generation was a really good starting point. Because of my speed and tempo (90 / 6) the software recommended shafts in the 130g range. From talking with the fitter we found that they were just too heavy and made the club feel like hard work to swing. We ended up in the 120g range and with the details of length and lie sorted, for the first time I've got a set of irons that are working with me.

Bob Brodbeck no shame in only being 1 degree out. Using tools like this in conjunction with ball flight will be very effective for fitters who don’t have access to technology like quad and TRACKMAN. Hope you’ve got the irons dialled in now Bob. 👍🏻

Went and got fitted for Mizuno clubs a while ago and they had one of these things but didn’t use it and when asked they effectively said they won’t use it. It should be noted that this was a big store in the UK I expect Ian has heard of and note a Mizuno fitter. Really interesting to see how this works though and how accurate it was

Does it work with driver, fairway woods? Is the optimizer compulsory for Mizuno distributors to use during club fitting?

the app will give shaft recommendations for the driver/fairways as well as part of the process - and no distributors are not required to use the device but can't imagine why they wouldn't want to!

According to Mizuno not every dealer is a Performance Fitter, which uses the DNA Optimizer. www.mizunousa.com/jump.do?itemID=5&itemType=LANDING&page=bullseye®ion=Golf

Great video. My recent fitting was spot on. Just wish Mizuno would offer a few more selections in their shafts.

Would you guys in the future consider making a part two to this video of finishing the fitting process based on the recommendations to see how well it truly works?

Man, I hate missing the premiere. The chats really add to the video. Really would love to see a collaboration tool between TXG and Mizuno. Maybe an after marker analyzer, use it as a training tool. Great stuff guys 👍

I have had an iron 'prescription' for almost 40 years that was based on a lie board, I need to hit this Mizuno analyzer and I bet I will be very surprised by the result.

God I love Mizuno's new game in terms of tech, diversity of design, and no up charge in shafts! Oh, and the new JPX lines, over-hauled woods and now the MP-20's, I've died and gone to golf heaven! "Mizuno, they're so hot right now!"-Mugatu

Awesome video! I was fit off a lie board in different time. Once with a rep once with my club pro. Though the fitting suggested 2 up, the pro recommended only going 1 up to avoid a left miss. The rep suggested 2 up to encourage a slightly different action at impact. Either way, hitting it sweeter now than ever after 15 years of scratch golf. Still, got me questioning it all now.
