My opinion on cheap vs expensive awnings is to go with the cheap for the replacement factor. What we all look for in an awning is weather protection from the rain and the sun. The Kings awning does just that. I'm all for quality for durability in other cases, but after I had a camping trip in Charlie Morelands, QLD we had a freak storm which put tree size logs everywhere around camp, which although didn't damage my pride and joy, absolutely destroyed my good quality awning. It doesn't matter what awning you have, it won't stop tree branches, abnormal winds, freak hail storms and even damage from 4x4ing. That's why I believe cheap is best for the replacement factor as a tree going through a $100 awning is less painful than a tree going through a $1,000 awning.

I’m 3:40 into this video. Solid so far. I’ve never built an overland, but I am researching as much as I can before I do. Thank you for the sound advice. If the rest of the video is this good, you’ll have a new subscriber.

Respect for the honesty with buying a cheaper awning over an expensive one just recently purchased a Dune 279 awning for litteraly a 5th of the price of a bush company one 🤣

The kings awnings are a bit flimsy and my m8 had a colaps during a rain storm form pooling in the center ... However a company called Supa RV make a curved telescoping center pole that can fit most awnings for $60. The velco is also a bit dodgy so we added some heavy gauge press studs (thumb snaps) to the velcro. With a bit of fussing for little cost it made a big difference and in the end it works great now.

Hi mate nice vid! Im looking at this exact awning and I'm about to pull the trigger. Are you still happy with it are they strong enough and have you had any troubles? How much wind can it handle roughly in your opinion? I appreciate your time.

Loving your vids mate. So happy you have kept them going. Definitely agree with you on this topic. I did the same thing with my Patrol. Used it to work out what is vital, what is aesthetic and looks cool and what is useful but doesn’t need to cost a fortune. No I am building up my Raptor I am concentrating on spending the dollars where is counts.

Right now the 2.5x2.5 kings awning is 89$. Sure it's no where near as good but if you smash an expensive awning 4weeling against a tree it will probably break no matter the price haha

This might be a stupid question but can the aweing get any bigger it just seems like they only did half a job can they go right around the car . Also can they make it stronger so if it hails it wont wreck the car just some ideas . Like i said it might be a stupid question because im looking at some stage of buying one in the future.

I like your reviews. I have to agree on the RTT. It's first class and I will be buying one soon. Can't agree on the awning though. I was at the 4x4 and camping show yesterday and checked out heaps of awnings and the Howling Moon awning won hands down. The Alu Cab one was rubbish and so was that Darche and the other awnings which were all basically the same as the Darche. The howling moon awning has a stronger structure and the pivot points look heaps more strudy than the The Bush Company awning. You could've got a 6 arm 2.5 M deep Howling Moon awning for $1490. Did you actually compare awnings in the flesh? I'm not being critical, just giving you some feedback. Thanks again for the vid though. PS. How the hell did you get 37s on a Ranger?
@TyFenwick5 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, no unfortunately I didn’t compare awnings in the flesh as I didn’t have time but I’m happy with my Bush Company one it’s been fantastic so far. 37s on a ranger ? I have 37s on the f250 not the ranger.

how much weight do you have on top of the Truck Top?
@TyFenwick5 жыл бұрын
About 100kg from memory, the canopy can take 220kg of weight on it own. However I’ve also added internal aluminium supports to hold the load.

Nice-looking awning but still can't justify the price when I can go and buy a Kings 270 just a strong not to mention most awnings are built in China doesn't matter what names on the awning
@TyFenwick5 жыл бұрын
It all depends if your looking for a short term option ? These awnings are made in South Africa, high quality materials are use like the heavy canvas. Kings gear is ok but awning like mine would outlast all the china awnings in the long term.
@bobcat76645 жыл бұрын
Well all I can say is I hope it lasts as long as you think there's a bloke on another KZbin channel that recommended a South African made shower ensuite for camping in outback only two years in the s*** itself I hope your awning last
