Have you used bottom air bag cradles before? Rough country and Daystar make them, so you can leave the bottom of the bags disconnected for axle articulation.

Great info mate. I’ve been interested in a set not so much for weight but for levelling the Alucab Rooftent at camp. Like how you give you own opinion rather than some sponsored guys who would just give you a sales pitch .

Great video man. I’m just about to pull the trigger on some airbags for my ute. Already have 400kgs constant load spring and it handles great but sags just a bit too much with my caravan on. Have done plenty of research and chatting with suspension guys and engineers and this video highlights all the things I have learned in one great video. Well done.

Boom 10k subs! Good informational video man! I have 500kg leaf springs in my BT50 for when I had my canopy and now that I sold it I just get thrown around the cab as I always drive 700ks to work aha. Been looking at doing a rear coil conversion soon with 300kg for now so when my new tray gets fitted next days off and a new canopy getting built I can sit it in there and see if airbags will be required! - Ashley 👌🏼

That sounds like the go mate, it’s such a fine line when setting up a heavy leaf pack or to soft of leaf pack. It’s especially hard when you take the load on and off the vehicle to find a sweet spot 👍🏼

Well presented, too many people don’t run air bags and the ass is kissing the floor, then some go to the extreme and the trailer is pointing to the sky. I have blown two air bags (Poly Air) with some rough tracks and since then went to AirBag Man with the sleeves. Zero issues now and only use the bags when towing. Makes a huge difference have the bags and only need to run 20-25psi dependant on the weight we have in the camper (2-2.5t) depending on the trip

How's it going 3 years on? I just ordered a full airbag kit for my 100 series through Airbag man. I have the same compressor you're running, I also plan to install front and rear lockers this time next year. Would like to know more info about the remote control style controller you went for. I reckon that would be good for mine. I feel you on leveling the tent also, last weekend i dug 2 holes about 1 ft deep on the passenger side, rolled the bus into the ruts and found my level that way... Looking forward to pressing a button.

Good balanced discussion of airbags. Thanks. I like the 25 | 75 idea. Any ideas on how you might measure the load taken by the airbags, or is it a notional idea. I generally had limited my bags in a 2010 Hilux to about 20 psi. to level out weight of a full LongRanger 140 L steel fuel tank and give a bit of help to the leaf springs. Even then I managed to bust twice, both times might have had a leak in the airbag hose connection.

@@TyFenwick bit like myself mate I’ve been umming & ahhing for the last 9 months since I had the springs upgraded in my 2916 dual cab hilux. Definitely the last piece in the puzzle for my suspension & working beautifuly just as you explained. Such a great addition to level the vehicle out for whatever you require on any given day. I’m exactly as you are with the canopy not on all of the time & towing heavy work trailers & boats most of the time. Great clip mate. I have an Aussie made Sunliner Camper on a Ford Ranger PX1 chassis. Leaf springs appear to be "constant load" installed by the manufacture. Would airbags assist in levelling up rear by 50mm and help prevent cornering roll?
@TyFenwick9 ай бұрын
It would help it but also look at a aftermarket rear sway bar to 👍🏼

The 350 has the heavier springs and bigger payload. Weight difference between 250 and 350 isn't much at all.
@TyFenwick4 жыл бұрын
Yeah just 1 leaf spring from memory mate, I think that’s the only difference with a 250 vs 350. Tow more with a 250 but 😁👍🏼

The chassis above the axle has an anvil like plate welded added to beneath chassis where the bump stop slams into the chassis on full suspension compression does it not? It is a strong point of a leaf sprung vehicle too. I don't run airbags in my tourer. Sprung for its full time weight. I get what you are saying though.
@alexgarcia3900 Жыл бұрын
Sure, the weight wasn't designed to go on the one point, but! It was Also not designed to double your payload.

And that’s were most people get airbags wrong. Carrying way to much

Hi Ty, I just finished watching your airbag video and I would to ask what made you decide on Boss airbag brand over the airbag Man brand..... my reason for asking is that I have a new F250 on order. Cheers John
@TyFenwick3 жыл бұрын
Nothing really made me go with that decision, it was more so that they had a kit ready on the shelf. The bags are much the same I’d say but with your new F250 you might need a custom set up made unless you source a kit directly from the US.

Kelderman have a great system designed for F series ! sorry (Ty don't like those brackets on chassis ) looks like it could fail with weight and corrugated roads but I hope it doesn't though ! It reminds me of the upper coil spring carriers in the rear of a patrol GU or GQ cheers mate see you on the tracks someday best regards
@TyFenwick4 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, Yeah mate I’m aware of the kelderman 4 link full air systems. They are very expensive but this video more so explained just the assist bags across the board of utes not just applications for f series. This system I’m confident won’t fail because majority of the load is always transferred into the leaf springs not the airbags. If anyone’s going to break it it’s me so see how we go 😂👍🏼 But yes if you want to spend big bucks on a 4 link complete leaf replacement then kelderman is the best option.

Hello from Ireland 🇮🇪 Just a question. I am planning to fit 315 tyres on my Renger Raptor as you have done, should I lift truck or it is ok as it is?
@jessemeanlt14 жыл бұрын
Air bags equal less breaking in front. I couldn't believe it until I se the scale on all the tires.
@brianlawrence88673 ай бұрын
Just watching, are you saying braking on front is worse?
@jessemeanlt13 ай бұрын
@@brianlawrence8867 if 4 scales are put on the tires and there is a load on the back... as you pump air in the air bags the weight will decrease on the front. Think of a L bracket. The frame is the long part and the air bags is the short part. The higher you pump the air bags the more leverage is created. Less weight in the front means less steering and less breaking.
