Very nice fly Davie. A great tip showing the need to 'draw back' on the cdc while putting on the wing. Many thanks for sharing.

hi Davie Very nice video and the way to use leftovers of CDC feathers What paint do you use for your peacock quills, if you paint them yourself. Thanks and cheers from Bosnia

Hi doa270879bl, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the way I used the leftover cdc feathers..I dye the quills myself and the dyes come from a company called Veniards they are a wholesale company that supply many shops so if you have one near to you they may be able to help you out...Many thanks again for your kind words.. All the very best from Scotland..Davie

Perfect, as always, Davie. I've noticed in recent years that nobody ever uses a stripped hackle quill any more, just stripped peacock. Is peacock better, do you think? Thanks again, Joe

Hi Joe, The quill bodies are very popular with many patterns and they do work extremely well though the stripped hackle quill can be very productive it's not as well known here as it is in other countries like America..I'm glad you like the CDC dry... All the very best Davie

Love this pattern, simple but real fishy. My question would be, do you use floatant and if so what type?
@DavieMcPhail

Hi Gregory, I've used Mucilin for years to float my flies but I've found Nikwax to be very good. I have attached a link to one of my videos which shows how I use the Nikwax on the CDC feathers I dyed, it works a treat... All the very best Davie.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3qxhK2PmNxqhKc

Does the hair dryer with its heat actually set the feathers on top of the hook or does it make the fly look better in the vise about like just brushing them upwards would? Thanks again, Joe
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, It does lift the feathers but it also brings them back more to their natural look which as you can see looks far better..Adding a little heat like this to feather will help take out the twists that may form when in the packets, steaming the feathers is also another good way to do this.. All the very best Davie

Davie cracking fly as always 👍what type of scissors are you using
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig Munro, I'm using Tiemco's Tungsten scissors which I do like but don't drop them on the floor as the tips can break quite easily and I have done this not once but twice so I had to file the tips back, you may see this on the pair I was using in the video.. All the very best Davie..
