Hi Davie, This version of a Daddy Long Legs is a new pattern for me… I’ve just tyed one for my Fly Box and it looks great with the Golden Pheasant hackle / legs… very realistic - thanks. Best regards, Wayne 😀👍

Remember doing well fishing this dead drift. Thanks for reminding me of this fly

It is surprising just how effective this pattern can be, ether with washing line, intermediate or sunk line techniques. My favourite method with this fly is as part of a washing line in the slick and collected detritus in or on the edges of wind lanes.

I really like this pattern Davie and I think tippet makes for a really mobile hackle that almost pulsates coming through the water. I have no raffle but I'm sure I could find a substitute. Real lovely wee fly

Absolutely beautiful fly sir! I did try to mimic myself, but did not have the same body material so i subbed in a turkey biot. Also i think i went a little to heavy with my partridge hackle on the front.

Braw video as usual Davie, my question is, if I don't have Raffia, would Light Cahill thread work as a substitute?
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alister, Lt Cahill would be a perfect colour for the body of this fly so definitely tye some with it and I am glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..

Davie, Happy New Year from Northern Ireland. How would you fish this fly without drowning it out too much. Lovely pattern.
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Morning ellierrudd7, Happy New Year to you too..It's a great top dropper fly so this would help you keep it closer to the surface if that's where you wanted it to be but I would recommend fishing it anywhere in the cast as it's a great pattern even tyed in smaller sizes.. All the very best Davie..

Great looking wet fly mate. Could you use seals fur for the abdomen? Thanks for a great start for the new year . Best Regards from West Virginia, Ken
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, A natural dubbing like American Red Squirrel or seals fur would be ideal though a beige or cream coloured floss will work as well... All the very best Davie..

Now it you are tying art pieces that sit in a frame - and don't float like they should - then can you do me a favor now? I'd like to see a pro tie a variety of my own special flies I like and are not popular. The Spotted Wing Amagio, The Willow Leaf Pink Salmon fly, and some kind of longer (if they are) mayfly emerger with a little wing case that's starting to fold out now. And maybe some others. A simple something. Do you simple flies? I do a great simple red chironomid that works. Well anyway - I enjoy your show. : )

Fantastic looking fly...deadly...not surprised it's banned by some...definitely going to add this one to my devine archive.. Not sure where I'll get the raffia here in dutch lockdown..hmmm girlfriend has a lampshade I think can restyle with scissors.Davie please try to avoid tying killing patterns that include using curtains, carpeting or soft furnishings it might spell the end of my relationship...😪🤣
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, Just use a natural dubbing like rabbit or a cream coloured floss which will work just as well as this will help you from getting into bother from the other half..🤣I got my raffia off Ebay.. All the very best Davie..

@@DavieMcPhail Thanks for that...its top of my list to try out...it sure does give a lovely effect..much like the real thing...will hold back until craft shops are open again soon. Seeing quite a lot or low and often no material stockists for fly tying here in central Europe...are you experiencing the same in uk by fly material suppliers?..just curious.
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I am lucky enough to have built up a lot of materials over the years due my job as I haven't been searching for much but using what I have although I have struggled with an odd size of hook with everyone tying due to the lockdown we all are under at times...Hopefully this year will be a lot better than the ones just past...All the very best Davie...

@@DavieMcPhail i watched the video tour of your workshop...very impressive...I have less than 5% of what you have and even thats been generous. I am often amazed at the materials and tricks that crop up in fly tying and mostly to great effect..the raffia is a good example 👍.

Ah - my cousin would just chase down the fly and use it for bait. Just kidding around - it's a good likeness to the crane fly though - or that's what we would call it. : )
@kamilponikowski91762 жыл бұрын
this fly has a really bad weak point, which is the extremely thin and brittle tip of the pheasnt hackle by which it was tied, my guess is it will break after two or three tough encounters with trout teeth.
@kamilponikowski91762 жыл бұрын
the partridge hackle isnt actually much better to be honest
