Thanks for your swift reply, Davie. Just finished my first effort,,your Willie Gunn gold, thanks to your excellent video. Not too bad, but not great either. However it just might score. My tube was revolving on the needle attachment I have. What is the attachment you use and where can it be got?Best wishes.

Hi Davie, nice fly obviously going to catch, do you role the hair on a hook tied version aswell because in my hook version i used some in the wing and some as a throat, is it better roling them? thank you,, Deion

Hi Dave I was wondering cause im tying them ona budget (ex cheap cotton swabs and tubeing) how do you set the tube that kinda holds the hook for the back and can you put on a diffrent variations of the silver doctor thanks Clay

Good instructional video. This is a pattern which have been working pretty good for me, live in the northern part of Sweden. Had a perhaps unusual question I was wondering if you could help out with? Figured I would give it a go to ask since you obviously have a lot of knowledge about fly tying. I fish tubeflies with a spinning reel, crossline swivel and sinker. Have been for years using tubeflies tied on simple cotton swabs without any weight added to the tube. Just started tying flies myself, was thinking of still using cotton swab tubes( it's cheap) and balance them out with leadwire close to the head. Is this anything you have tried? Using leadwire close to the head of a tubefly to offset the weight of the hook at the back? Have just seen people use lead wire for non tubeflies. My thinking was that it perhaps would make the fly sink in a more attractive way if it roughly weighs the same in the front as in the back. But perhaps it doesn't really matter and I am overthinking it? Do you have any video by the way where you are using fairly thick lead wire? Would be very helpful to see how you attach it to a fly.

Hi Robert Pettersson, I've used lead tape on some tubes which will add a certain amount of weight but I'll tye on alloy, copper, brass and tungsten tubes to get the fly down and as well I use metal and tungsten cone heads which can be added to certain plastic tubes which have been made to fit them...I've attached a link to a company that sells tubes which can be adapted to suit the speed and depth of the water... I hope this helps you in some way... www.tubeology.net All the very best Davie

+Davie McPhail Very interesting, thanks for the reply. Smart idea to have a tube system that allows you to switch coneheads so easily. Great inspiration.

Davie, is there no need to line the copper with plastic tubing?Just starting to do tube flies.Your videos are super.Thank you.

Hi ceoltarus na eireannCara Brennan, Most tubes will need a liner as they can be a bit rough round the edge and can cut into the nylon but if you feel it's well finished then you can get away without one... All the very best Davie

Hi Davie, nice videos. What hook tubing do you use ? Iv tried guideline tubing which is too hard. Veniards is too soft. Then Iv tried 2mm mustad sea fishing rig tube. Which is a bit small. Can't seem to find anything to suit! Thanks a lot

Hi Davie, Just wondering baffled with the tubes etc, what would i need to fish like say a plastic tube? or a copper what would i need to get? I really don't know could you link me so i could get started? Cheers

Hi Fishing7776, I use a 10ft 7/8 weight for small alloy to plastic tubes and on a 14ft 9/10 weight on the heavier copper and bigger tubes...Tying on a single, double to treble hook depending on the rules of the water you are fishing and to a size to suit the tube you are fishing will balance the fly right and nylon strength from 8lbs up.. I hope this is what you are looking for... All the very best Davie..

Hi Davie, can you tie this on a hook instead of a tube? I only have hooks and no experience with tubes. Also, im sure i've asked this before, but would dyed squirrel tails work? The ones i have are dyed yellow, fire orange and black but the yellow and orange ones have ots of black showing and dont look as vibrant as the bucktail. Thanks Again, ~david
