Sheer perfection from a master tier. What impresses me the most is your sense of proportions. You always get it just right. Thanks for yet another masterclass.

I love fishing a fly with wings but haven’t tied any for a long while. I’ve never used the waste end for propping it up like you showed. Now I need to get out my wing feathers again, if I can find them.

Another classic model of rare elegance, easy to assemble, the only difficulty may be the wings. I also often wonder why worry about complaining about life when it is often these fly models that catch the most fish! And another fender assembly trick that I didn't know about. Thanks for this lesson. All the best.

I almost like this style of fly as much as I do those gorgeous Spiders. But those wings! 😬 aaaaargh! And of course I/we have still to get half decent matched and paired feathers..... 🤔🤔😬😬🤔🤔 All said and done though, thank you for sharing another one dude. 😊😊😊

Nice way to tie the wings I'll have to give that method a go. I usually tie them facing forwards and fold a couple of the waste ends from between the wings - it helps to keep them separated.

What are reasons to use hen as dry fly hackle? Are their advantages to using hen vs rooster on certain flies?
@DavieMcPhail3 жыл бұрын
Hi Caton Farm, I used hen hackles for dries for many years especially with some of the genetic hens as the small feathers I found worked really well when I was using them on size 16s down..I love as well mixing hen and cock hackles to make dries as they work really well for me.. All he very best Davie..

Amazing wings davie My wings when tied look like yours prob do after 20 fish 😆 Hen pheasant wings, starling or Mallard are my kryptonite. I wonder could i do a deer hair wing variant of this instead lol😆
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi A troutflycrazy, Deer hair makes for a great wing so I would certainly tye a few with that and I wouldn't worry about getting a perfect wing as it fishes best when it starts to open out..I'm glad you liked the video.. All the very best Davie..

I'm a bit confused now. I thought hen cape doesn't work as hackle for dry flies? Do they float well enough, or is it just that you have to gink them well enough? That fuzzy look in the hackle is perfect but does it really work?
@kuttycrew3 жыл бұрын
A lot of value in whiting hen capes for dry fly use, thicker stems may be the only concern.
@kalikasurf3 жыл бұрын
Right about the time you feel satisfied with the bugs you’ve made, Davie makes a bug that leaves all your flies looking like trash!!!

Hello Davie... You mentioned at the end, "Use whatever floatant you like...". Are you still using Mucillin silicon, or have you found a type you like better? Mike

@@DavieMcPhail thank you, I’m at the vice now ready to have a go. I came into fly-fishing/tying (aged 26) a bit later than most my fishing friends who’ve grown up fishing. Your videos have helped me gain confidence and technique that often they are now asking me to tie certain flies for them, so thank you very much! I hope one day you’ll release a book!
