I like hooks with a gentle, continuous bend for my most of my nymphs, as well. If you haven't seen them, check out the Dohiku "P" hooks ("P" stands for pupa). They are awesomely sharp, but have a fairly fine wire; caution is called for when playing larger fish.

Brilliantly piece of tying. You make it look so easy ive been tying some nymphs still to be tested might no catch??? maybe scare the fish.

It's a very effective fly for grayling, I use such flies for many years, tied on Kamasan B100 hooks of various sizes. A material you've used for abdomen is very convenient to tie, I've used some dubbing or yarn. Next time i will try to dub a yarn, not thread. IMHO horns on this fly are very significant elements. I've done it from mallard so as you've done or widgeon for bigger sizes. Thank you for excellent video. Tight lines!

In old Mike Daves's flytying book I've seen a very similar fly with abdomen and thorax made from ostrich, olive and dark brown respectively... But it has no legs.
@handcannon1388
@handcannon1388 5 жыл бұрын
Tightly twisted antron yarn makes a nice caddis pupa body, but it lacks the "fuzzy" factor. You could probably wrap between the segments with some very sparse dubbing in a loop or with the split-thread technique - similar to a cat-gut pupa.

Nice , i like the Semperfli . I have never used it but looks simple enough . The yellow eyes and rib give it a good look . I am sure any self respecting trout would love to see this floating there way , thinking yum that looks good :-)

Great looking caddis pupa mate. That will be a great little nymph for the spring start. Great colours. Where about can you get the thread from and how small would you go with it? Would love to put a few of those beauty’s in my box. Thanks for sharing a great video with us all. Best Regards, Ken

That looks awesome, any trout that refuses that needs it's to have a good look at itself. is the Nymph Dub available to buy? I immediately went hunting for it after watching the video but my search has been fruitless . Keep up the great work, my son and I watch your videos every night before he goes to bed. He's only 4 and demands to watch "flies" and has done for about 2 years now , he especially loves your organza spinner 😊 Tight lines 🎣

How is the SemperFli spooled nymph dubbing different from just putting your own dubbing on a thread? Is the idea that it’s just quicker and more uniform? Or maybe it’s the multiple layers of color (brown cord beneath amber dubbing)? Thanks for the great tutorial, Davie.
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I agree you could tye an amber dubbing say over a brown thread and get a similar effect but it's always nice to mess around with other materials like the Nymph Dub and it does make tying the fly a little quicker...I'm going to give it a go so we'll see if the fish like them as well...I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the question.... All the very best Davie

Dear Davie, Great caddis. I am going fishing on the inn river, near Innsbruck in a few days. What flies should I be using? Is it too early still to chuck bwo dries? Warmest, Colbee
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Colbee, I can only suggest the type of fly that I would be fishing on my local water at this time of year and they would be dries like March Browns and Spring Olive's in sizes 12s and 14s you could also tye wet versions as well...Nymphs like the Hare's Ear and Pheasant tails should be worth having...I hope this is of some help to you and have a great trip.. All the very best Davie
