My dad, Sean, passed away last year. This is one of my favorite memories of him and I'm glad to see it's still being shared around. I remember sitting in the fly shop with him in Elk Springs when Fly Rod Chronicles filmed the original video

Thanks Davie. Sean was a great friend of mine and got me started into fly fishing. Spent so much time together in PA, WV, and NC. Mustard Green is the first fly he taught me to tie. Miss him and God Bless you Sean!

Davie, I have chills!! Can’t believe it when I read the title? Can’t believe you are tying this fly across the pond? Who asked you to do this? Sean taught me how to fly fish, I met him probably in 1995 and eventually became really good friends. Our birthdays were both in June and for years I would hire him to take me fishing in WV on my birthday. After a while he would just take me fishing! He was a great man and a great fisherman! Taught me so so much that I reference every single time I am out fishing!!! I sent him a lot of clients over the years and visited when he ran the resort at Elk Springs. I spent so much time with him on streams in remote WV it was fantastic!!! We mountain bikes into remote streams and saw non one! He knew all the good spots!! I still have some original mustard greens!! He told me it’s actually a caddis emerger. This is still my go to point fly 365 !! It catches fish non stop!!! It’s not just a drake pattern, it rocks when the drake’s are on I will tell you!!! I tie it on a euro jig hook now and even down to to 18 with a 2mm bead as a dry dropper, brookies have to have it!! Thank you so much for honoring Sean in this way! He was a dear friend that formed and touched me in a way I will never forget….

Hi Scott, I love patterns like Seans fly as I can see straight away that it could easily give the impression of a few flies and is something different from the norm which many like me like to see....Sean sounds like a real gentleman and like many that enjoy tying flies and fishing are willing to help and share their knowledge . The gentleman that asked me has left a comment below and his name is Micheal Ross so you can say hello..It does make sense as it would be a great caddis pattern as well as a great drake and large mayfly nymph/emeger..I am going to tye a few in different sizes for next season so I'll be tying a few different sizes..I'm glad you enjoyed the video and that you feel that Sean would have appreciated it so thank you for the kind words.. @@DavieMcPhail thank you again!! It also rocks as a slupher emerger that’s where we really killed em, then when the drakes we on at the same time it was deadly!!! Again it’s my go to year round it just looks so buggy and that tail shuk just swims. I tie a lot of my tails long because Sean’s reasoning, his grandfather taught him for many many decades!!! I really miss fishing with him! Too young to pass!!

Unusual finish on the head of that fly David one I will play around with for the up coming mayfly session in 2023 I was playing with that style of fly with a rib on it

Perfectly tied! That Tail/shuck on a Liesering lift makes it swim to the surface. I know it’s crazy looking. I really hesitated trying it. Glad I did. And looking like the Irish loch fly. It’s spinner we call the Coffin Fly looks just like the CDL Dynamite Harry you tied call a Gnat. Thanks. Try it in different sizes too.
