I'm a massive fan of a Peter Ross. Some people say they don't catch on them but for brownies they are deadly. That's an interesting variation and great tying.

I think you’re bang on Davie. Tying dabblers is probably what helped me get to the next level in my tying when I was learning from your videos years ago.

I know a man from port glasgow that would pay anything for a Peter Ross like that .👍

Just a beautiful tie. Wonder how a Dabbler would work on a river?
@DavieMcPhail Жыл бұрын
Hi Ross, It would work a treat as they swim really well, this one would be great for sea trout and salmon though the trout would be just as happy to take it..I'm glad you liked it.. All the very best Davie

Do you deliberately wear a blue shirt when you film tying? I’m guessing it provides a nice background to highlight what you’re tying?
@DavieMcPhail Жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, It's as you said, to provide a nice background and it highlights the flies I tye and is soft on your eyes. I also used a light blue background on my desk as it works just as well, this is how I got the idea to do this.. All the very best Davie

Thanks, Davie... If you would, what scissors are you using now... and would you have another pair of them? Mike
@DavieMcPhail Жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I'm using an old pair of Tiemco razor scissors which had lost their edge, I gave them a light sharpening which worked well so I've been using them as they have a lovely point..They are great scissors but if you drop them on the floor which I did a couple of times you are likely to break the points as the pairs I bought I broke two one lasted a month and the other only lasted one week so you have to be careful with them.. All the very best Davie

Thank you, Davie. I'll remember that... both the scissor type and the DON'T DROP THEM... =] Mike@@DavieMcPhail

I understand that these are usually fished close to the surface, but what would you recommend as the best way to add weight to this? I like your idea of this as a fry pattern, but I am thinking of using some in a situation where fast sinking flies work most effectively. As always, thanks for the great patterns and clear instructions.
@donaloflynn3922 Жыл бұрын
Davie has many videos posted with instructions how to do this Richard. Just wrap a tiny strip of lead around the hook, starting 3mm back from the eye - to 1/2 down the hook; cut from a thin a lead sheet - before starting the whole tying process. I’ve copied this method and it works great. Good luck.
@richardwhite9682 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I have seen some of those videos. I use that technique for certain flies, using strips of lead tape that comes on rolls, tape normally used for weighting tennis rackets. Since it comes on rolls, I find that it is easier to use than lead sheets.@@donaloflynn3922
