Another great video Davie! Hopefully you can do a tribute video to our friend Oliver Edwards in the next few days. You're one of the few that genuinely remind me of him behind the vise.

A brilliant fly Davy it’s like the olive bumble you tied nearly 50 of them for me many years ago which we still use but my son Grant follows you and ties lots of your flies like this and they work fantastic on the dropper and I use it when fishing up in Caithness but keep it up Davy ,love your stuff.👍🎣

Just wanted to say thankyou Davie for all the tutorials over the years, I have learnt so much from your videos and have taken what I've learnt from you to tie and fish those flies both here at home in Australia and around the world to places like NZ and Kiribati. Thankyou so much and great job with the channel!

Nice fly. I'm partial to olive caddis as its very effective on the steelhead that come up into the river system here. God Bless n Fish on!

Lovely pattern! Thanks for the very useful tip of twisting the hackle before snipping off. Great advice as Im always conscious of trying not to cut some of the wound hackle off along with the waste piece!

Hey Sir, how often do you need to buy new scissors? My hands are somewhat shaky, so I tend to bonk the tip cutting edge on the hook shank or eye, or a tungsten bead when I tie with one often which scuffs up the cutting ability of the scissors really fast. I have a pair of renomed scissors around here that lasted less than 3 days before the tip stopped cutting. I sharpened them myself, and they are ok now, but normally, I buy a new pair of scissors about once a month or 2. I've started using sewing thread rippers to cut all my threads, this works surprisingly well and faster than using my scissors

Hi Half Insane Outdoor Guy, I do go through scissors myself although a pair would last me around 6 months but if I am tying salmon flies then they ware a little quicker as some hairs can blunt them especially goat..I've broken a few points myself as well by dropping them on the floor though it's been a while since I did this... All the very best Davie

I love the idea of using seam rippers to cut the thread. One quick push and it's done, and they are made for getting into small places. Cheaper than good scissors as well!

You might want to look into Fiskars Gingher GNGGTNKE 4.5" Thread Nippers. These scissors have a spring action and you squeeze them with your fore finger and thumb to cut. The blades hold up very well and you can even run your pinkie through the finger hole which allows you to keep the scissors in your hand while freeing up your fingers for other actions. Just rotate your hand to re-grab the scissors when you need them. No need to put them down and pick them up, again and again, while tying.

This may come across as a silly question but when it comes to the Irish Lough patterns do they work very similar to the Scottish loch's or would you avoid these patterns in general? Thanks again Davie 👍👍
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail Жыл бұрын
Hi dongil123, In Ireland many of their loughs have great hatches of the larger mayfly unlike our lochs though we still get the odd water with them so any of the flies in the box will certainly catch so I would be fishing sizes 12s and 14s more than a 10.. All the very best Davie
