Hi Davie, this video was a joy to watch. You explained each step and showed each material and all the variants. More importantly you explained the why and how of fishing the pattern. You're a brilliant teacher. If you were a chef on KZbin you'd be rated 5 🌟 stars! All the others would be using this video as a step by step for their classes. This pattern would be great for the hex hatch this summer. Even the wing could be modified, maybe the tail also, for a spent hex the next morning (which I'm told can be just as if not more productive). Thanks Davie for a wonderful and inspiring tutorial! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 👍😁

Beautiful fly. I gave them to a fellow fisherman. He misunderstood something and put it on his hat.

Hi Davie, yet again another brilliant pattern. Just for your info - my son Danny and I met you recently at Glasgow angling centre open day, you referred to him as the Tall Boy if you recall. Just a note to thank you for all the advice you have given us via you tube and to let you know that Danny won the Greys Junior Bank final at Ellerdine Lakes last weekend using variations of flies you taught us to tie and which he had tied himself. Thanks again - you continue to be a source of inspiration. Best wishes Ron Vine

Dear Davie, I've just watched this and your Yellow May pattern. If you ever have time please could you do a video on how to dye various materials. I have never use dyes so it would be helpful to learn methods to dye herl, cdc, hair, which dyes to use etc. Many thanks Davie.

Hi Davie, thanks a lot for another fantastic pattern and your over and over inspiring fly tying. From time to time you recommend good scissors. Could you give an advice which ones you use and there I could get them? All the best ... Peter

Hi Peter, Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, at the moment I'm using Tiemco Tungsten and as well as a spare I'm using Veniards all-purpose 4 inch..The Tiemco scissors are good quality with very fine tips and cut really well and a joy to use but you have to be careful as I have dropped a pair and broke the tips, I filed them back and as you may see they still cut ok...I hope this is of some help to you.. All the very best Davie...

I like this pattern, but find that many of the commercial fly boxes available will compress large bushy flies.IIs squirrel hair resistant to that?
@DavieMcPhail7 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, Squirrel is a good hair and if it gets out of shape with lying in the box I'm sure it will sit well after a few casts..Getting a fly box for large flies like these as you said can be a bit hard...I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie...

Hay Davie its Colin Danenberger from America. The question for you is with the squirrel tail you use in the fly. Did you dye that your self? And also I recently got dye from Vineyard what dye would I use to get that color? Thanks Colin Danenberger
@DavieMcPhail5 жыл бұрын
Morning Colin, I did dye the squirrel and to get the light olive I used Veniards Brown Olive, just a little as it will go too dark if you put too much in..Let me know how you get on when you get it... All the very best Davie..
@ColinD01315 жыл бұрын
@@DavieMcPhail thanks Davie I'll have to order the brown olive. I also love dying materials now thanks to you and Paul Slaney. I still need to dye a medium grey saddle I got yellow. And will have to send you and Paul a message to see how it goes
